Oxfordshire County Council has signed contracts with GRAHAM Group and AECOM to deliver stage two of a £332m scheme to improve infrastructure around Didcot. GRAHAM is undertaking the detailed design of the Culham river crossing and the Clifton Hampden bypass elements of the scheme while the detailed design of the Didcot Science Bridge and the widening of the A4130 is being led by AECOM. Following detailed design work construction is expected to start in early 2026. Councillor Judy Roberts, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Development Strategy, said: “GRAHAM has worked on similar projects around the country and have a high commitment to social value and giving back to the local area. Their bid was successful as they understood the scheme and its complexities and how the four elements need to tie together. “AECOM has been involved in the project since its inception and have supported us through the planning application process. Network Rail launches market engagement for £24M earthworks framework in Wales & Western This strategic #procurement initiative is designed to identify and appoint contractors capable of delivering rigorous inspection, examination and reporting services for #earthworks and related #structural assets across Wales and Western England. The civil examination services in question are critical to maintaining the safety, reliability and long-term integrity of Network Rail’s infrastructure. These inspections aim to detect defects early, assess structural soundness and inform timely maintenance or repair work, thereby preventing infrastructure failures that could disrupt rail operations and compromise passenger safety. The scope of this framework covers a range of earthwork-related asset types, including soil and rock cuttings, embankments, natural slopes and coastal and estuarine defences composed of earthworks. Of particular note are coastal structures designed to protect railway infrastructure from tidal erosion and flooding – assets that are increasingly vital in the face of climate change and rising sea levels. A notable feature of this contract is the inclusion of “Outside Party Slopes”. These are slopes situated beyond the #NetworkRail boundary, owned or managed by third parties, which nevertheless pose potential risks to the railway infrastructure. Where external parties fail to demonstrate satisfactory slope management, Network Rail intends, within lawful limits, to undertake cyclical examinations of such slopes to mitigate risk. Three primary examination types are encompassed in the framework: **Cyclical earthwork examinations, conducted regularly per task schedules or as directed by Network Rail representatives. **Rapid response earthwork examinations, deployed in emergencies to address urgent structural concerns. **Geotechnical incident reports, produced as necessary in response to specific events or findings. The estimated total value of the contract is £24M excluding, spanning an initial four-year term from 29 June 2026 to 28 June 2030, with an option to extend for an additional four years through to 27 June 2034. Network Rail is seeking engagement from potential suppliers to inform its procurement strategy, offering industry participants the opportunity to shape the framework’s development. Interested parties are encouraged to respond before the engagement deadline of 30 September. Network Rail had a vital infrastructure development project to complete with BNG requirements to meet. Having exhausted all options for delivery on-site, they chose to look off-site. That’s where we came in. We delivered ready-to-purchase off-site Biodiversity Units from our national network of BNG Habitat Banks, and to a tight timescale. The essential project that our Biodiversity Units have helped launch is for Network Rail to construct a third platform at Salford Crescent Station, a busy station in critical need of expansion. Our team of BNG experts were there throughout the planning process, helping to ensure the project commenced as quickly as possible. We addressed queries from the Greater Manchester Ecology Unit (GMEU) and helped source the necessary types of habitats, including: - heathland and shrub from our Horwich Habitat Bank   - woodland and forest from our Minting Habitat Bank. Today’s publication by Government of an Infrastructure Pipeline is a positive step forward. We’ve done some initial analysis of the data available on the 29 rail schemes listed.
