Girls just wanna have funding! Today the Startup Coalition has released a sobering and well-researched report on the state of investment for female founders in the UK. 🚨 For every all-female founding team that raises over £1 million, 12 all-male teams do the same. At £10 million+, that jumps to 36:1 🚨 As a female co-founder, I’ve been lucky to work with some incredibly supportive male colleagues who have championed me from day one. But from the stories I've heard, I KNOW how lucky I have been. I’ve also never been so aware of my gender in my professional life as sharply as I have when engaging with the VC community. Of course, not everyone is part of the problem, and unconscious bias is... unconscious... But the data is clear: this is real. This is about a system that continues to shut too many women out. A GP made a public, snarky, comment insinuating my female co-founder had cosmetic surgery. He didn’t comment on our business nor our technology, but her body. Yep, you heard that right… 🙃 🚩 Female founders face discrimination, in pitch meetings, in boardrooms, and now, apparently, also in public on LinkedIn. We’re building a category-defining company at ReBloom, tackling one of the most opaque and old-school corners of finance, the secondary market. A recent post about our mission went viral, and got over a million views. 👎 But among the thoughtful reactions, a General Partner of a VC chose to comment not on our message, but on my co-founder’s appearance. It was disrespectful, inappropriate, and telling. The comment got likes. People found it funny. Sadly, this isn’t a rare one-off. It’s part of a broader pattern. Here’s the reality: 🙌 Women account for 24% of exits, yet receive only 2%(!!) of venture funding (PitchBook, 2024). There’s no lack of talent, just a surplus of bias in the industry. Unfortunately. We’re working to change that, pushing a backwards system forward. So how can we change this all together? It’s 2025, we should be waaay past this.

In the UK, we’re often hesitant about selling. There’s a cultural discomfort with it as if being direct about value is something to be avoided. But in business, selling isn’t optional… it’s essential. Every founder needs to learn how to sell. Not just how to talk about a product, but how to position it, how to create urgency and how to communicate its value clearly and confidently. Because no matter how good your product is, it means nothing if no one knows about it. Visibility is just as important as quality. You can have the best product in the market but if you can’t convince people to care, it won’t go anywhere. Selling isn’t just being pushy it’s a skill. And it’s one every successful entrepreneur inevitably masters, whether selling to customers or investors.

Last week I had the chance to sit on a panel with other founders for MassChallenge UK, sharing advice with new entrepreneurs just starting out. Thanks for inviting me David Kinsella! It reminded me how often the early choices you make as a founder can shape everything that follows. 👉 Choosing a co-founder isn’t just about shared vision — it’s about doing real diligence, not relying on what others say about them. There was a great story by another panellist about how this can go wrong if you don't do this. 👉 The same goes for investors. They may be on the journey even longer than your co-founders, so make sure your goals truly align. 👉 Focus is always a battle. There are endless things you could do — but the data should guide what you must do. 👉 When it comes to clients, the first five matter more than you think. Work closely with them, but build your systems for fifty. 👉 And markets shift. Sometimes you can weather it, sometimes you need to pivot fast, and sometimes the smartest move is to exit quickly. 👉 If you do exit, do it from a position of strength, not weakness — just like fundraising, leverage is everything. The truth is: building a company is incredibly hard. Most don’t make it. But if you’re feeling stuck, I’ve helped a dozen founders in the past year get unstuck and find new growth in unexpected places. ✨ Never give up, keep moving.
