A proposed settlement has been reached that would resolve the class action lawsuit Douglass v. Husqvarna Professional Products, Inc., Case No. 2:25-cv-00771 (W.D. Pa.). The lawsuit alleges that Husqvarna Professional Products, Inc. violated the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 12101, et seq., by failing to take the necessary steps to ensure its website and mobile apps does not discriminate against individuals who are blind and/or who have a visual disability. Under the settlement, Husqvarna agrees to make its website and any new website or mobile app it develops or acquires accessible to individuals who are blind and/or who have a visual disability. About us
The American Council of the Blind is a national membership organization formed by people who are blind to promote the independence, dignity and advancement of people with blindness and visual impairment. Members are blind, visually impaired or fully sighted people, from all walks of life, and ranging in age from teens to seniors. ACB encourages people with vision impairment to live and work independently, to make significant contributions within their communities, and to advocate for themselves. ACB governmental affairs staff constantly monitors laws and regulations crucial to the lives of people who are blind. Issues which receive ACB’s attention include civil rights, education, employment, Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, guide dog access, pedestrian safety, travel and recreation, expanded public transportation, adaptive technology, braille literacy and more. When appropriate, ACB works in coalition with other disability groups worldwide to create a range of effective programs for people who are visually impaired.

While in the San Francisco Bay area this week attending a Meta Wearables Summit, ACB Director of Advocacy and Governmental Affairs Claire Stanley, J.D. and her guide dog, Tulane, took a Waymo ride! Autonomous vehicles like Waymo continue to expand mobility and independence for people who are blind or have low vision. Coalitions such as United for Autonomy, which includes ACB as a member, are working to advance federal policies that support the safe, effective deployment of AVs nationwide. Pictured is Tulane on the floor of the back seat, enjoying the ride.
