The ACSA Legislative Lunch Break is back at 1 p.m. after a brief hiatus as Naj and Edgar take a close look at the fast-moving effort led by Education Secretary Linda McMahon to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education. Key grant programs are being shifted to the Departments of Labor, State, Interior, and Health and Human Services, raising major questions about consistency and federal oversight. We'll explore what these changes could mean for schools and students in California and across the country.

I can’t let the weekend pass without celebrating a major milestone. ACSA Executive Director Dr. edgar zazueta, marked 10 years with ACSA on Friday! His leadership, steady presence, and genuine care about members and support of staff have meant so much to so many of us. Time truly flies when you’re working alongside someone who brings heart, humor, and dedication to the work every day. Cheers to a decade of service. Happy 10th ACSA-versary, Edgar!

"Leading loudly is not about volume. It’s about values.” - Dr. Lori A. Watson More than 600 school leaders from throughout California traveled to San Francisco for this year’s Leadership Summit in early November! Attendees heard from keynote speakers and joined sessions connected to the theme, “Lead Loudly: Sharing Stories. Building Bridges," and found some inspiration along the way. “When they come into our buildings, regardless of what’s happening out there, when they look at us, the world could be telling them no, but we’ve got to tell them yes!” said Dr. Calvin Mackie, founder of STEM NOLA. We are partnering with WestEd on Getting Down to Facts III — the latest installment in a highly influential statewide research project. The Getting Down to Facts reports have a strong track record of impact. The first report laid the groundwork for the creation of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), and the second expanded investments in early childhood education. Now, Getting Down to Facts III will take a deep look at compliance and reporting requirements in California’s public schools, an area that has grown increasingly complex and time-intensive for educators and administrators. Take the survey and share it with your colleagues today: bit.ly/4nCJB30

There's so much happening on day two of Leadership Summit! We heard from Dr. Cherina Betters, Ed.D. at our Equity Breakfast, whose wise words on leadership enlightened us. "Leadership simply means I'm inspiring," she said. "I'm helping. I never want you to assume you're not a leader because you're not THE leader. You're the leader of YOU." Students from Ballet Folklórico Alma de Mexico of South San Francisco High School kicked off our general session with traditional Mexican dance. ACSA Vice President Roxane Fuentes, Ed.D. introduced our keynote speaker, Dr. Gholdy M., who discussed culturally and historically-responsive literacy in the classroom and curricula. Plus: Sessions included "Innovating Leadership in Educational Options" with school leaders who are also members of our Council of Educational Options Leaders; and Dr. Lori A. Watson of Race-Work headlined our Women's Luncheon. Bonus: Check out our ACSA past presidents! #acsasummit25

Our Leadership Summit is underway in San Francisco, and we've got a lot going on! Last night, we opened the conference with our reception featuring "decades" themes from the past, and member authors signed copies of their books. Today, ACSA Pres. Dr. Daryl Camp welcomed first-time attendees and we heard from Dr. Calvin Mackie of STEM NOLA on the influence educators have had on his life and career, starting from when he was a child growing up in New Orleans. At lunchtime, we honored our 19 Every Student Succeeding awardees from all ACSA regions, in addition to two adult education students. More to come! #acsasummit25 #caeducation #leadership
