#JobCorpsIsOpen for Mississippi Job Corps Center students who helped assemble The Wall that Heals during its stop in Crystal Springs, MS. The Wall is a 375-foot replica of the Vietnam Memorial located in Washington D.C. The Wall is sanctioned by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. Students worked to assemble the metal frame and plexiglass panels for the replica. They later provided traffic control for visitors, assisted in locating names on the Wall and helped elderly and visitors with disabilities get to and from the Wall. Not only were the students able to experience the Wall themselves, they walked away with memories of being part of it. Major kudos to our students for helping bring the Wall to Mississippi! #JobCorpsWorks for Healthcare graduate Chudier Simon, who earns $22 an hour as a Medical Assistant for NEXTCARE URGENT CARE - PHOENIX. Chudier completed her Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) training at the Phoenix Job Corps Center. Before enrolling at Job Corps with her high school diploma, Chudier explored ways to break into the medical field and create a better future for herself. She selected CMA as her trade because she wanted a hands-on role in healthcare that would prepare her for more advanced roles in the future. Her drive for long-term success and passion for medicine led her to Job Corps. Chudier's focus and discipline helped her excel both academically and professionally. She completed her CMA program in just under 300 days. Chudier earned her Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification and obtained credentials in HIV/Aids Training, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician. Additionally, she conducted an internship with Trinity Integrated Care. She graduated from Job Corps in August 2023 before obtaining employment with NextCare. In regard to her postgrad life, Chudier has gained financial independence, built a career she’s proud of and is actively working towards her long-term goal of becoming a physician assistant. She is a part-time student at Phoenix College, where she is completing her prerequisites for the nursing program. Chudier credits her CMA Instructor with instilling in her a sense of discipline, resilience and a strong work ethic that continues to guide her career. Her daily routine, work habits, and confidence have improved due to the structure and support she received throughout her training.  “Since leaving [Job Corps], my career has progressed immensely; it was a catalyst for me,” Chudier said. “I now have triple the options I did before going in.” Stories like hers would not be possible without Job Corps. Grafton Job Corps Center Electrical student Griffin Hershman was awarded the Make It Happen Award through the National Grid Energy Infrastructure Academy (EIA)! Griffin graduated from the EIA, along with Grafton Plumbing student Jajuan Nedd last month. Griffin conducted training with Community Work Services, while Jajuan worked with Training Resources of America. "Griffin, you are winning this award because there is no obstacle in the entirety of this program that you did not overcome. You moved mountains to participate in this program and to be present each and every day," said National Grid Colleague Laura Reiman. Ms. Reiman was one of the four coordinators of Griffin's field training. The EIA features rigorous training that tasks potential National Grid apprentices with the mental, physical and emotional demands of work with major utility Registered Apprenticeship programs. #JobCorpsWorks for Culinary Arts graduate Damon Vaughn, who works at Coast 2 Coast Seafood Bar and Grill in Solomon's Island. Damon completed his training at the Woodland Job Corps Center, where he obtained his ServSafe Foodhandler, ServSafe Manager and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. Here is his story. "I graduated high school. I was job searching and I couldn't find anything. I realized I needed experience. My aunt recommended Job Corps to me. At first, I wanted to go home, I was homesick. Eventually, I made friends and then the environment on Oak Dorm made me stick it out. My biggest cheerleaders were my Counselor, Residential Advisor and Culinary Instructors. I participated in an event [for the Department of Labor in 2024]. It was huge but I learned a lot. We served over 150 people. Beyond my new job, I will continue to seek advancement in the Culinary field, specifically baking. I loved learning to make chocolate truffles and gingersnap cookies!"
