As a leader, you could look at the situation and think: 📱 “We need to improve the product quality.” (an Expert mindset). 📉 “We need better sales processes and goals.” (Achiever). 🤔 “Are we still relevant? We need to look at our strategy.” (Redefining). ⚡ “It’s time to change how pricing models work in the market.” (Transforming mindset). In the scenario above, any of these approaches could be right. Adeption started out in leadership development in a bit of an unconventional way... Years ago, my wife Emma and I started an online gift store, but once it was up and running, I was mostly redundant. My family knows my gift wrapping skills! This led me to get some part time facilitation work helping organizations come up with strategies and solutions for the big, gnarly problems they were facing. There was plenty of demand, so Em soon joined me, trading gifts for workshop designs, slide packs and resources. We were in our element consulting, and getting fantastic feedback. We thought we were doing everything right, identifying the critical issues, getting everyone's involvement, and then summarizing the outputs into clear and beautiful plans to execute on. However when we started visiting the organizations six months later…. not much had changed. A good half of them had done nothing! It was demoralising. In this article I share what we learned (the hard way), why understanding the nature of adaptive challenges is critical to leadership today, and how mindset growth is an essential unlock.
