It is with deep sadness that AIG mourns the passing of Tom Bolt. Tom was a highly accomplished insurance executive, who was deeply respected and widely admired in the global business community. Tom’s storied career in the insurance industry spanned more than four decades. He joined AIG as Global Chief Underwriting Officer of General Insurance in January 2018. Tom’s industry stature, reputation and expertise played a critical role in establishing General Insurance as an industry leader for underwriting excellence. He led our efforts to create a standard for underwriting across all of AIG, which strengthened our culture at a pivotal time for the company. He later served as AIG’s Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, a role he held until his retirement in 2024. Throughout his career, he held a range of senior executive positions including at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, where he was President and CEO of the U.K. and Southern Europe. Tom was also a member of Berkshire Hathaway International Insurance Ltd.’s Board of Directors, after having previously served as Director of Performance Management at Lloyd’s of London and Managing Director of Marlborough Managing Agency at Lloyd’s. In addition to his significant professional accomplishments, Tom was an amazing mentor and friend to many around the world. His quick wit and creative storytelling were legendary and endearing. For all of his humility, Tom’s formidable intellect, integrity and deep empathy were ever-present and served as an inspiring example of world-class leadership. Tom’s work to make AIG a special place will never be forgotten. Those of us who were fortunate to work closely with Tom have missed his presence every day since. On behalf of AIG’s Board of Directors and colleagues, we send our deepest condolences to his wife, Patti, and his children and grandchildren.
