Sherry Lange, an inspiring American Family Insurance agency owner in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, has been dedicated to insuring and protecting her community for 20 years. Her latest initiative? Repurposing an American Family emergency response vehicle into a mobile command station for the Jefferson County Emergency Communications (JCEC). American Family’s emergency response vehicles provide immediate, mobile support to customers affected by severe weather and catastrophes, assisting local claim employees with large claim volumes. While attending a district meeting, Sherry noticed retired emergency response vehicles replaced by updated models, which gave her the idea of repurposing one. “I think we have a need for that in Jefferson County,” she said. With American Family’s assistance and grassroots fundraising by the JCEC, the vehicle was given new life and purpose, enhancing JCEC's ability to respond to incidents and stay connected with the community. JCEC, powered by volunteers and on-call 24/7, assists with traffic occurrences, local incidents, and even coordinates with federal agencies during big events. They also provide a mobile presence at large community events like county fairs and parades. Sherry is proud to represent a company like American Family that gives back. Her husband, Merlin, has served over 10 years as chairman of the board of directors for JCEC. This story is a great example of how individuals can be a force for good in their communities. Dontae Exford was given the keys to a refurbished 2022 Toyota 4-Runner as part of the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides® program, which provides deserving individuals with safe and reliable transportation. Dontae has worked hard to overcome challenges in his life, including homelessness, with the help of Community Advocates, an American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation partner organization. Heather Gautsch, a former member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard and the United States Army Reserve, was presented with a refurbished 2025 Honda CR-V! Through the NABC Recycled Rides® program, American Family partners with local auto body shops to donate vehicles that have been declared a total loss.
