In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are honored to share this great quote from Sharon Catalan, HR Recruitment Coordinator out of our Fairbanks, Alaska location. Sharon goes on to tell how being from the Philippines and her Asian background has helped shape who she is personally, and in her professional role with AWC. Sharon, we are so lucky to have you as part of our team! “My name is Sharon Catalan and living in Fairbanks, Alaska, USA. I'm working at All Ways Caring Homecare here in Fairbanks as an HR Recruitment Coordinator. At first, I have this fear in me to apply a job here since I am Asian and English is not my first language. But when I started my job, even in the very first day, I felt the good vibes and atmosphere in the office. My colleagues understand me and if I need help for some words that I don't know or don't understand, they never judge me, instead they are helping me understand the words, what it means and how I can say it. I realized and I'm grateful that 'language' is not a hindrance for us to work as a team. I am from the Philippines and my great grandfather Richard Earl Clay is a Black American. He was in the military and one of those US Military assigned and serve the Filipino people. Now that I am here living in Fairbanks, I'm promoting continues “Unity" between Filipinos and Americans. I am serving at the same time as an assistant treasurer for Filipino American Society of Fairbanks and our organization is open for both Filipinos and Americans. We are always joining this town in many activities that can empower each individual and supporting this place who accepted us with open arms. We, at Filipino American Society of Fairbanks joined recently at the Annual Community Clean Up. And we prepared more valuable projects and programs being a Filipinos that Americans can benefited from it. I am grateful to know that here at BrightSpring Health, we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. I am so happy that there is YOU who recognizes our history and challenges we faced like discrimination. It is the right time to spread an awareness that these people can give a positive impact anywhere they go, in any company, and any people they work with. This celebration inspired me personally and gave me more strength and motivation to be more productive and do my very best to AWC, Fairbanks branch.
