October was a brilliant month for #Britishdairy in the Chicago area! 9 British dairy brands took center stage at Angelo Caputo's Fresh Markets stores during the month of October with 34 live demos, attractive in-store signage, promotional pricing, print and digital ads, and plenty of happy customers. The goal was simple: let customers taste British dairy products. And it worked. Territorials – Cheddar, Wensleydale, Double Gloucester, Red Leicester, Stilton, Sage Derby. Different delicious cheese blends with fruits, truffles, chive and onion, spices and more. Clotted cream and crème fraiche. Customers stopped, sampled, smiled. Some discovering products for the first time. Behind every bite, always, is a story of craftsmanship, regional heritage, quality and innovation. It was great to visit four of the ten stores last month, observing the promotion in full swing. There's still nothing like a demo. Some things in retail change, some remain the same. Demos are timeless. Last week, I was in Chicago to support our British dairy promotion at Angelo Caputo's Fresh Markets. I watched British cheeses, clotted cream with strawberries come alive at the demo stations. Shoppers didn't just see the products, they experienced them. Smiling, swapping stories. Because here's the truth. Demos move product. They drive trial, lift units/SKU/store/week. And move hearts. Sure. They take work - staffing, coordination, logistics. But when I saw one customer leave a demo with 3, not just 1 but 3 new British cheeses in their cart, I was reminded it was worth every bit of effort. A treasure trove of Italian quality food and wine they have a separate catering arm. My recent wow purchase: Foccaccia sandwich platter 🥖 2) SunshineCupcakery.com 🧁 The owners were raised in the Elgin area and the owner Sunshine is a ray of sunshine. I typically am indifferent about cupcakes, but wow-yum - these changed my outlook on what cupcakes could be. My recent wow purchase flavors: Caramel/spice, blueberry/lavender and zesty lemon 🍋 3) Kerri Liu | www.thegin.city 🎨 I proudly brag I knew her when she was a promising graphic designer back in our Judson University days:) Kerri is so thoughtful and community-minded with her amazing talent. Her work can be seen throughout Elgin whether on the streets, inside businesses, homes and online. My recent wow purchases: Elgin-centric signs and postcards 🌆 4) Signs By Tomorrow w/Jon Pendexter 🪧 I have worked with Jon for over two decades and he and his team never disappoint. They also have a shop closer to Chicago for jobs needing delivery/pick-up. My recent wow purchase: Elgin-centric signs. 🖼️ 5) FedEx (by Portillo’s/Walmart) 📄 Not really a small local business, but the guys who work there are always top notch and have been there for years. They are so personable and take great pride in their work, which is hit or miss in their industry these days. My recent wow purchase: Postcards 🏡
