  • As Nathan Johnson, PhD, MASCP, MLS(ASCP)DLM,SC,SLS, furthered his career as a medical laboratory scientist (MLS) serving in the U.S. Air Force, he earned multiple credentials, including his ASCP BOC Diplomate in Laboratory Management (DLM), Specialist in Chemistry (SC), and Specialist in Laboratory Safety (SLS) credentials. According to Nathan, obtaining his credentials was a natural result of being a laboratory manager (DLM) and completing his graduate degree in clinical chemistry (SC). He felt that earning these credentials demonstrated his competency and professionalism as a laboratory professional. ASCP BOC is pleased to work with military personnel to make the process of preparing and applying for an ASCP BOC examination as seamless as possible, regardless of where they are stationed. #ASCPBOC #Military

  • National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) is celebrated in August to promote organ donation within multicultural communities. 60% of individuals that are on the national transplant waiting list are from a racial or ethnic minority group but donors from these groups are significantly lower. While beneficial for all organ donation recipients, increasing diversity in the donor population increases the chances of finding a compatible match for organ recipients who are part of an ethnic minority group. ASCP BOC wants to bring light to the beauty of organ donations while also spreading awareness about the laboratory testing that is essential to organ donation. Laboratory professionals play a key role in determining tissue compatibility between organ donors and recipients, increasing the chances of a successful transplant. Learn more about NMDAM at NMDAM - NMAG. #ASCPBOC #NationalMinorityDonorMonth #NMDAM

  • August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). NIAM highlights the need for immunizations for people of all ages. Your medical records show what vaccines you’ve received in the past. To stay up to date on your immunizations, check-in with a healthcare provider to see what vaccines are currently recommended for you. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone stays up-to-date on their vaccines.
