National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) is celebrated in August to promote organ donation within multicultural communities. 60% of individuals that are on the national transplant waiting list are from a racial or ethnic minority group but donors from these groups are significantly lower. While beneficial for all organ donation recipients, increasing diversity in the donor population increases the chances of finding a compatible match for organ recipients who are part of an ethnic minority group.
