Aspire Hosts Successful 2025 Coaches Sports Summit for Thumb-Area Schools Aspire Rural Health System proudly hosted a highly successful 2025 Coaches Sports Summit on Wednesday, November 5, bringing together athletic directors, coaches, assistant coaches, and training staff from schools across the Thumb region. Held at Bad Axe High School, the evening event provided valuable education and collaboration focused on supporting the health, safety, and performance of junior high and high school athletes. Attendees enjoyed a complimentary dinner before participating in a series of interactive presentations led by Aspire’s medical experts. Aspire extends a special thank-you to the Huron County Community Foundation, whose generous grant made this event possible. The summit featured three key educational sessions. Dr. Hanna Kubacki, PT, DPT, and Dr. Seth Guigar, PT, DPT, presented “Preseason Strength and Conditioning with Injury Awareness and Prevention,” offering evidence-based strategies to help prepare athletes for the season while reducing injury risk. Anita Schierlinger, MSN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, provided an in-depth look at student athlete mental health, sharing guidance on recognizing signs of emotional strain and supporting the well-being of young competitors. Dr. Kathleen Rochefort closed the evening with a practical and informative session on student athlete nutrition, highlighting ways to fuel performance, aid recovery, and maintain overall health. The annual Coaches Sports Summit is part of Aspire Rural Health System’s commitment to equipping local school staff with tools and knowledge that directly impact the safety and success of student athletes. This year’s event was met with positive feedback from attendees who appreciated the relevance of the topics and the ability to bring actionable information back to their teams. Aspire extends its gratitude to Bad Axe High School for hosting the event and to all who participated. Thumb Cellular Donates $6,804 to Covenant Cancer Center at Aspire Marlette Through “Pinktober” Fundraising Aspire Rural Health System is proud to share that Thumb Cellular has generously donated $6,804 to the Covenant Cancer Center at Aspire Marlette. The funds were raised throughout the month of October during Thumb Cellular’s annual Pinktober events, held across the Thumb at each office in Caro, Bad Axe, Pigeon, and Sandusky. Activities included pink hair extensions, a bake sale, basket giveaways, and their “Casual Cause” jean days on Fridays. The Cancer Center is putting this gift to immediate use by purchasing a Welch Allyn vital signs monitor, a critical tool for patient safety. Some chemotherapy medications require vital signs to be checked every 15 minutes during infusion. On busy days, up to 4–6 patients may be receiving these infusions at the same time. The new monitor will help staff manage frequent monitoring more efficiently while ensuring the highest level of care. As an extension of the Covenant Cancer Care Center, the Marlette facility is a collaboration between independent hospitals committed to making exceptional cancer care more accessible by delivering high-quality oncology services close to home. The collaboration includes Aspire Rural Health System, Harbor Beach Community Hospital, Scheurer Health, and Covenant HealthCare. “We are incredibly grateful for Thumb Cellular’s continued commitment to supporting local cancer care,” said Michele McKenney, Aspire Director of Oncology and Infusion Services. “Their generosity directly enhances the care we provide to our patients close to home.” Thumb Cellular’s long-standing efforts during Pinktober highlight the power of community partnerships and the impact local businesses can make in supporting rural healthcare. 37th Annual Tree of Shining Love Campaign The Christmas Season is fast approaching. The annual Tree of Shining Love campaign provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals to give the gift of appreciation to loved ones, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and community members with a donation in their honor -- or in their loving memory. Sponsorships are also offered to businesses, organizations, clubs, churches and individuals to donate and support our worthy cause. The recognition ceremony will pay tribute to those listed in a special public presentation that also includes appreciation to our sponsors. In addition, our Aspire Rural Health System Foundation Community Relations Committee carefully selects a deserving special honoree to recognize their life of service to our area. This year’s honorees are Ken and Pat McLaren, long-time members of the Marlette community. Please consider donating to our 2025 Tree of Shining Love campaign as an individual, family, business, or organization. Proceeds will support the new state of the art Ambulance project for Aspire MRH. This TSL ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, 1-2 p.m. at the Heartlands Community Center.
