Listek for 3DPrint.com, part of the Boston’s Additive Edge at Autodesk series, Autodesk Research Residency Program team Harvard University Graduate School of Design researchers Madeleine Farrer and Chenming He explore how mining waste can become the backbone of new architectural systems through their project Geo-Stitch. The duo are part of the Grinham Research Group, with Jonathan Grinham as the principal investigator. As part of 3DPrint.com’s "Boston’s Additive Edge at Autodesk" series, a new feature by Vanesa M. Listek highlights how teams in the Autodesk Research Residency Program are using large-format 3D printing to test optimized bridge designs at full scale. Led by MIT PhD candidate Hajin Kim-Tackowiak, with support from Haden Quinlan of MIT’s Center for Advanced Production Technologies, a team of MIT researchers is using a gantry-system printer by Build Additive to investigate how additive manufacturing can create lighter, stronger, and more efficient concrete structures. Through the Residency Program, their research pushes the limits of multi-material printing—bringing topology-optimized designs out of simulation and into reality. The Canadian construction industry is undergoing rapid transformation, sparking dynamic discussions on how to collectively navigate this change. With the increasing demand for faster, safer, and more sustainable construction, the power of AI and data-driven collaboration is increasingly evident.  To address this, Autodesk Research joined the National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada to host Construction Bytes, facilitated by Yeji Data Lab.
