  • We’re looking forward to sharing the latest clinical advancements from our enzyme therapy and skeletal conditions portfolios with healthcare providers, researchers and advocates this week at #ICIEM2025 and #ASBMR2025. Highlights include new data from our Phase 3 study in adolescents with #PKU at ICIEM and updates on #achondroplasia and other skeletal conditions from our CANOPY clinical program at ASBMR. At ASBMR, we’ll also present research on #ENPP1deficiency following our acquisition of Inozyme Pharma, further expanding our commitment to conditions resulting from enzyme deficiencies.

  • From a nuclear machinist mate in the U.S. Navy to an engineer at BioMarin, Travis Wilson has charted his own unique course throughout his career. In our latest chapter of “The DNA of BioMarin,” Travis discusses his journey from the armed forces to his current role as a leader at BioMarin, and how his team’s contributions help enable the company to deliver critical medicines to patients. • Our People with Disabilities (PwD) Employee Resource Group (ERG) transformed the courtyards at our San Rafael and Novato sites into vibrant art exhibits celebrating the creativity and talent of local individuals living with disabilities in partnership with Marin Ventures. Marin Ventures provides a day program that offers creative arts and other enriching activities for adults with developmental disabilities, helping to foster independence and personal growth. Mozzeria, a local deaf-owned and operated Bay Area pizza truck, provided lunch at the event, offering not only delicious food, but also a chance for employees to learn more about communication within the deaf community. We want to thank our PwD ERG for putting on these events at our Northern California sites, highlighting some of the talents of people in our community who are living with a disability.

  • Angel is a typical teenager working toward independence while seeking his parents' support. He is also learning to chart his own path while living with #achondroplasia, a genetic skeletal condition and the most common form of dwarfism. “My parents let me choose what to do and what not to do, but always give me their personal opinions,” says Angel. “Even if they don’t agree, they support me.” Angel is one of several individuals sharing their lived experience with achondroplasia on The Inside Story website, an informational resource designed to assist families navigating achondroplasia and highlight opportunities to meet others in the community. Developed with input from patient advocacy leaders and healthcare professionals specializing in skeletal dysplasias, the website shares information, general advice and practical tips for individuals and families managing achondroplasia and other skeletal conditions. • Some genetic conditions aren’t caused by a single gene variation, but by the effect of several specific variations at the same time. These are called polygenic conditions, where multiple genes contribute to risk and expression of a condition.   Researchers are developing polygenic scores to better understand the combined effect of multiple genetic variants in conditions such as skeletal dysplasia.   BioMarin’s contributions to this research are part of our ongoing commitment to increasing understanding of genetic conditions and developing medicines that transform lives.

  • The BioMarin Women’s Alliance (BWA) Employee Resource Group (ERG) recently recognized 10 of our global colleagues during a lively awards ceremony at our San Rafael headquarters. As part of its annual BWA Champion Awards, the ERG recognized LUCIA Vázquez and Paulina Barranco, PMP for advocating for women’s well-being. Glenn Smith and Orla Markey received honors for allyship. Caoimhe Broderick, Danielle John Tan and Leena Priya Makani were honored for the work in community-building. Kelsey Gonzales, Maria Ng and Shannon Utter took home awards for mentorship. With nominations submitted by colleagues worldwide, the selection process was competitive and inspiring. Congratulations to this year's winners – their actions and impact exemplify our culture of supporting each other and belonging.

  • A Novato Unified School Bus arrived last week at our San Rafael campus, and thanks to the efforts of our employees and interns, it departed loaded with backpacks, full of supplies for the upcoming school year. Colleagues packed pens, notebooks, folders, and other essential items to ensure local students have everything they need to start the school year. We thank our employees, and our partners, Special Projects Manager Courtney Budesa and Assistant Superintendent Adam Jennings from the Marin County Office of Education, for the chance to help support families and educators in the Marin County School District as they prepare for 2025–2026 school year.

  • Meet Lola, a young woman from Seville, Spain who is working to establish a medical career by interning as an anatomopatholgist – a specialist who studies the effects of medical conditions on the structure of the body's organs and tissues. Lola is also using her voice to increase awareness of the daily realities of living with achondroplasia to help dispel stereotypes and advocate for a more inclusive and accessible society. Participating in a social media campaign called #SeeMe, created by Fundación Alpe Acondroplasia in collaboration with BioMarin, Lola invites others to view the world from her perspective. She highlights the unique considerations for people living with achondroplasia around daily tasks many take for granted, such as navigating her work environment, riding public transportation, cooking, eating at restaurants, and shopping for clothes and groceries. “I want the world to see what it’s like to live with achondroplasia,” writes Lola in one of her #SeeMe posts, inviting others in the community to participate. “I encourage you to show the reality of living with skeletal dysplasias to help break down barriers and challenge stereotypes.” We thank Lola for providing a glimpse into her everyday life, and our partners at ALPE for collaborating on this campaign. • Children chased bubbles, families posed for caricature portraits and adventure-seekers climbed the rock wall as our San Rafael campus was transformed into a fairground for our company family barbecue. The photo booth was a hit, and lawn games brought out everyone's competitive spirit. Thanks to all of our team members who attended to share their work life with their loved ones and help foster a deeper sense of community for our Northern California employees.
