Our ministry is so proud to highlight the impact of our Getting Healthy Zone initiative, a community-driven program serving our Toledo, Ohio market. This initiative is focused on increasing infant vitality, improving health outcomes, and creating neighborhoods where residents can live, work, and thrive. The Getting Healthy Zone brings together Mercy Health, local residents, and community partners to address health disparities by providing access to resources, education, and support that promote long-term wellness. Recently, Susan Zirkel, Grant Program Coordinator (left), and Cindy Pisano, Supervisor of Healthy Connections (right), were recognized by Buckeye Health Plan with the Longtime Community Partner Award for their leadership and dedication to advancing community health in Toledo. Their work exemplifies the collaboration and commitment that make the Getting Healthy Zone a model for transforming community health outcomes. We are grateful to Susan, Cindy, and all our partners who contribute to building healthier, stronger communities in the Toledo region.

We are proud to share that Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) was recently recognized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives’ (CHIME) Digital Health Most Wired Survey, an internationally recognized benchmarking program that honors excellence in digitally enabled health care. BSMH received a Level 10 achievement in the Acute and Ambulatory categories, which is the highest level of recognition in CHIME’s Digital Health Most Wired Survey. “In today’s rapidly changing health care environment, technology is essential to how we live our Mission and serve our patients,” said Edmund Siy, chief information & technology officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health. “Earning a Level 10 distinction underscores our ministry’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Most importantly, it celebrates the dedication of our clinicians, providers and associates who use digital tools every day to deliver safer, smarter and more compassionate care.”

We’re proud to share a remarkable milestone for Mercy Health - The Jewish Hospital in their continued journey to advance stroke care in our Cincinnati, Ohio region. Neurosurgeons Solimon Oushy, MD and Michael Robinson, MD successfully performed the hospital’s first direct bypass from the superficial temporal artery to the middle cerebral artery (MCA) — a complex and rare procedure that immediately restores blood flow to the brain. This life-saving surgery was performed on a patient experiencing dangerously high blood pressure, right-side weakness, and speech difficulties—signs of a severe cerebrovascular blockage. Unlike indirect methods that can take months to take effect, this direct bypass provides instant revascularization, restoring oxygen to the brain when every second counts. This achievement was made possible through the seamless collaboration of the surgical, anesthesia, and neuro critical care teams, supported by the cutting-edge infrastructure of the new Comprehensive Stroke Center at The Jewish Hospital.

Recently, the Van Wert Chamber of Commerce invited our Paducah, Kentucky team to be a part of the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation training on behavioral health issues in the workplace. Addressing this topic is critical to maintaining a healthy, safe, and productive workforce—and its not always easy. Mary Miller, Behavioral Health Outreach Specialist, shared examples of what to watch for, tips on having conversations, and stressed the importance of EAPs. She also reminded us all that being open, honest and compassionate is the best first step for keeping everyone safe.
