Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential.
About us
Since 1954, the Boys & Girls Clubs in Oxnard and Port Hueneme have been trusted spaces where young people learn, grow, and thrive. BGCOP now serves 5,500 kids and teens across 21 locations as a vital community institution. Generations of youth and families have found connection, opportunity, and hope through the Club—a tradition that continues. From the historic Harriet H. Samuelsson Teen Center to the Martin V. Smith and Port Hueneme Clubhouses, each site reflects a deep commitment to building a better future. BGCOP has also expanded through satellite clubs with community partners and by delivering programs directly to campuses in the Rio, Ocean View, and Hueneme school districts. In a groundbreaking initiative, BGCOP established the first Boys & Girls Club within a secure detention facility, in partnership with the Ventura County Probation Agency. This innovative program extends the Club’s mission to reach youth in the justice system, providing mentorship, support, and hope where it’s needed most. One of BGCOP’s proudest accomplishments is its lasting impact: Club youth are more likely to stay on track in school, graduate, and pursue their goals with confidence. The Club experience supports the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—through caring mentors, enriching programs, and a safe, supportive environment.

Not only has Juan’s dedication as a Boys & Girls Club member earned him a full ride scholarship to California State University, Fullerton, but it’s also led to continued opportunities for growth like his recent invitation to the 8th Annual Hyundai Motor Company Career Experience Day at Hyundai Motor America and Genesis Motor America. 🚘 Juan gained valuable insights, heard inspiring career stories, and saw how his business studies align with opportunities in the automotive industry. The BGCOP team is so proud of you, Juan. We can't wait to see what else the future holds for you!

At the Gene Haas Foundation STEAM Innovation Center, innovation is more than just a buzzword... It’s a hands-on experience! These two members of the Martin V. Smith Youth Center are using green screen technology to produce their own video as part of the Video Production module. This is STEAM in action: blending technology, engineering, and art to help youth build confidence, creativity, and career-ready skills. Through opportunities like this, BGCOP is preparing the next generation of storytellers, creators, and leaders.

We are incredibly grateful to the Amgen team for their generosity and partnership in making the holiday season brighter for our members at the Reiter Family Youth Center. Through thoughtful planning, teamwork, and genuine care, Amgen employees fulfilled 70 holiday wish lists, wrapped gifts on campus, and took the time to personally visit our kids. Moments like these go far beyond gifts - they create connection, joy, and lasting impact for the families we serve. Thank you to the Amgen team and organizers who made this possible. Your commitment to community and youth, truly makes a difference.

Hi, my name is Luiza, and this is my Club story. There was a time when I had very little tolerance for things that upset me. That mindset often led to arguments and eventually problems with law enforcement. I knew something had to change, and more importantly, I knew I had to change. I decided to take a different path - one that focused on building my character instead of holding onto anger. I learned how to loosen my fists and walk around with a smile instead of a clenched jaw. That change really began when I was given the opportunity to join the Youth Advisory Council at the Harriet H. Samuelsson Boys & Girls Club Teen Center. I started showing up more, getting involved in events and activities, and surrounding myself with people who genuinely cared about my growth. The Boys & Girls Club played a huge role in shaping who I am today. Through humility, self-reflection, and the real love and support from the staff, I’ve developed a more mature and positive mindset. Because of that, I now feel motivated to keep evolving into a caring and compassionate person. Today, I enjoy helping others and being a role model at the Club. I’m incredibly grateful for all the opportunities the Boys & Girls Club has given me and continues to give me - as I keep growing into the best version of myself.

Brent’s Club Graduation – Holiday Edition! ❄✨ After graduating from Brent’s Club, families stayed to decorate gingerbread houses with their teens, turning the celebration into something meaningful and fun. It was a sweet reminder that the Brent Shapiro Foundation is more than drug and alcohol prevention - it’s about growth, commitment, and support from the people who matter most. 💙

We were honored to welcome the Consulado De Mexico Oxnard to the Reiter Family Youth Center at the John C. Zaragoza Community Center! In attendance were Ambassador & Head Consul Ricardo Santana Velázquez, Consul for Community Outreach Juan Antonio Cid Dávila, and Claudia Luna from the Department of Communities. During their visit, they symbolically delivered a box of Spanish-language textbooks recently received directly from Mexico. These official materials from the Mexican Ministry of Education are intended for children in basic education, ages 6–12. They also provided several additional boxes for our other Club sites to support the learning and growth of the children we serve. We are grateful for their partnership and commitment to our community!
