About us
the lead anti-poverty 501(c)3 community action organization in Bucks County. Our mission is to reduce poverty and partner with our community to promote economic self-sufficiency. The Bucks County Opportunity Council is 501(c)3 charity located in Bucks County who carries out its mission to reduce poverty through five programs: economic self-sufficiency, food, emergency services, weatherization and tax preparation. The economic self-sufficiency program works with motivated families through coaching and education to earn a livable wage and become free of all government assistance. As the lead food agency in the county, our food program supplies donated food, both government and private, to over 80 food pantries and distribution sites. The emergency services program helps individuals and families in crisis providing short-term assistance in the form of rental assistance or overdue energy bills. The weatherization program provides heater repair and replacement for low-income families as well as services to make home more energy efficient. The tax preparation program is run entirely by volunteers who prepare over 1000 tax returns annually saving low-income families on expensive preparation fees and maximizing tax returns. Our Wheelz to Work program takes donated used cars, evaluates them, repairs them if needed and then provides them to our economic self-sufficiency clients to help them over the barrier of transportation in Bucks County.

🦃 We picked up 19 beautiful Thanksgiving Turkey Baskets this week from Curtin & Heefner LLP for our Economic Self-Sufficiency clients! Thank you to Scott and Stephen Retail Rescue Volunteers for helping pickup and deliver to our offices! We are beyond grateful for all the donors who helped us build these baskets over this holiday season, as well as the volunteers who helped us transport them. Local families are going to have a delicious Thanksgiving this year because of you!

What a day! Our food donation pick up event kept us busy today, along with some amazing partners and volunteers. A million thank-yous to New Britain Baptist, St. Andrews Perkasie, BBack Car Care, Doylestown Hospital, Pat Houston, ROLLING HARVEST FOOD RESCUE, and New Britain Food Pantry, who donated 500 pounds of dry goods and 100 turkeys! And we can't forget Embers Smokehouse and Tap, Doylestown Dance Centre, Doylestown Action League, and our friend Connie for all their help!

🥫 Over the past month, Senator Steve Santarsiero has hosted not one, but two, district events with Reps. Perry Warren and Timothy Brennan, where food was collected for BCOC. Hundreds of people brought food items and more than 2,000 pounds of food was donated over these two days. Thank you all!

It's been a week since our Changed for Good Gala, celebrating 60 years of transforming lives, and we are still flying high...defying gravity, you might say. It was a beautiful evening and of course we had to share some shots of the evening with all of our friends and supporters. We celebrated at Rose Bank Winery with close to 200 guests. Together, we raised $184,000, $14,250 specifically from our 9 auction items A special shout out to our honorees for the evening deserves repeating: ✨ Calvary Church was presented with the Community Connector Award. ✨ Delaware Valley University was presented with the Building Bridges Community Impact Award. ✨ And BCOC board member Tobi Bruhn was named Ambassador of the Year.
