Today, BWXT joined Idaho National Laboratory, the US Army, and the United States Department of War's Strategic Capabilities Office to mark the arrival of TRISO nuclear fuel for the Project Pele microreactor. This exciting milestone marks a significant advancement in the industry, as Project Pele leads the way in developing cutting-edge microreactors. Big milestone for Project Pele: the first TRISO fuel load has arrived at Idaho National Laboratory. This delivery is a huge step forward and shows just how fast this program is moving. In three years, we’ve gone from signing the contract to manufacturing reactor hardware and delivering fuel—staying right on track to meet the US Army’s need for deployable nuclear power. But this isn’t just about delivering fuel. It’s about progress. It’s about getting closer to a fully integrated, transportable microreactor that can provide reliable power when and where it’s needed most. BWXT is expanding its service offerings by providing Owner's Engineer services for Bulgaria’s New Build Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, Units 7 & 8, as part of a three-party consortium. Under the first phase of the contract the consortium will support Kozloduy NPP New Builds Plc with front-end services, such as Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract negotiations and constructability reviews, ahead of a potential Final Investment Decision. Bulgaria is constructing two Westinghouse Electric Company Gen III+ AP1000 nuclear units at the site. The first AP1000 unit is set to begin generating electricity by 2035, marking a significant step forward in Bulgaria's energy future.
