The final spotlight of the year is here — and we ended on a high note. ✨ Last night, we wrapped up the final First Look of 2025, bringing Austin’s innovation community together to connect with the founders shaping tomorrow. Each month, First Look brings our investors, mentors, and corporate partners face-to-face with the newest startups in our All Access program. But this one had a special kind of energy — year-end momentum, bold bets, and founders ready to sprint into 2026. Here are the trailblazers who took the stage last night: MDC Inc Ensemble Space Labs Ixian Industries Evolve VIA BioFuels EcoPulse TeraSpatial, Inc. XRComm Stylo Network UViiVE Inc. Seaspire Skincare CubeNexus Inc Chateauz™ From advancing satellite systems and space tech to pioneering sustainable fuels, environmental intelligence, AI-powered platforms, and next-gen communication tools, this group of founders is turning bold ideas into real impact—and raising the bar for what’s possible. As we head into a new year of building, scaling, and creating what’s next… one thing’s for sure: innovation isn’t slowing down, and neither are we. 🚀

Wrapped up an amazing day at the Dual-Use Academy hosted by Capital Factory, where founders, investors, and operators came together to unpack the realities of building at the intersection of commercial tech and national defense. The sessions dug into the evolving dual-use landscape - everything from navigating non-dilutive funding pathways to understanding how upcoming policy shifts will reshape where early-stage companies fit in the national-security ecosystem. Discussions covered changes to SBIR/STTR funding, the increasing emphasis on TACFI/STRATFI gap financing, and the expanding requirements around CMMC cybersecurity compliance for defense-oriented startups. We also heard from leaders across the Austin defense community - including Samuel Riehn, MBA from SBIR Advisors Inc., Zach Walker from ATX Defense, Kevin Landtroop from Bravo Ordnance, Col. William Wilkinson and Lt. Col. Bradley Breaux, P.E. from AFWERX, and Mathew Etheridge from the Army Applications Laboratory - on how procurement is changing, why speed-to-field matters, and what founders need to prepare for as dual-use commercialization accelerates. The event closed with live startup pitches, showcasing teams applying emerging technologies to real national-security problems. Seeing the creativity and urgency behind these solutions was a clear reminder of why dual-use innovation matters. Thankful for Nina Shelat, Joseph Kopser, and Capital Factory for creating a space where dual-use founders can learn, connect, and build with purpose - and for continuing to lead from the front in one of the most important innovation arenas in the country.
