We talk about the work we do to acquire and preserve land, but let's discuss how we PROTECT land that is now preserved in perpetuity. Our Land Stewardship Director, Jesse Price, gave us a quick summary: "Conservation easement monitoring is the process of regularly inspecting a property to ensure that the terms of a legal conservation easement agreement are being upheld and that the land's conservation values are protected. It involves comparing the current condition of the property to a baseline report, which documents the property's initial state, including its resources, infrastructure, and restricted activities. Monitoring activities include annual on-site visits, aerial imagery, and meetings with landowners to check for changes like new structures, invasive species, or violations of the easement." Each year, Jesse monitors over 35 properties easements to ensure conservation efforts are being carried out by all participating landowners. A big thank you to Jesse for his important work in conservation! --- If you own property and would like to learn more about easement opportunities, please email us at info@centralpaconservancy.org to start the conversation. --- 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘶𝘴? 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 Peggy Fogarty, M.S. I am grateful to celebrate another Thanksgiving on our family land on the top of Peter’s Mountain along the Appalachian trail. We expect about 40 people as we celebrate the legacy our grandparents had the foresight to establish when they purchased land in 1963. The fourth generation have made this their tradition too. They protected this land for the family, and for the public, forever. It is a honor to assist others to carry out land protection together. --- What's one of your favorite Thanksgiving family traditions?

A big thank you to the employees of Carlisle Construction Materials for coming out to The Letort Spring Garden Preserve for this year's United Way Day of Caring Volunteer Event. On October 10th we saw 40 eager volunteers resurface trails, transplant native plants, clear fallen tree debris to build habitat for our forest creatures, and beautify the barn with a crushed stone apron. Every year CPC looks forward to working with members from the local community that want to help local nonprofit organizations complete needed work projects through the United Way Day of Caring. --- Contact us today to get involved in future volunteer opportunities! We would like to take a moment to thank the community support we received at our Volunteer Day located at the Letort Spring Garden Preserve. 👏🏼 Members from Carlisle Construction Materials, RETTEW, Mid Penn Bank as well as local residents worked together to dig out what will soon be the foundations for two picnic tables. One will be placed along the old Barn Trail and the other along the ORAR Trail. They also collected native seed from the preserve to spread over the disturbed areas for future pollinators. In the upcoming weeks Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. - HRG will be out to volunteer their time to create the forms and pour the concrete for this project being generously funded by a grant from Pennsylvania American Water If you are interested in scheduling or participating in a volunteer day to support conservation in south-central Pennsylvania, contact us today at info@centralpaconservancy.org Thank you to everyone who helps us achieve our mission to acquire, preserve, and protect natural lands in south-central Pennsylvania! 🌱

Last week, we gratefully accepted a Spirit of South Mountain Award from South Mountain Partnership to honor the 905-acre Tuckahoe Land Acquisition Project located near Michaux State Forest. This property, which includes the headwaters of Dogwood Run, provides critical habitat for wildlife such as forest interior dwelling bird species, amphibians and reptiles, provides migratory corridors for many native species, and provides a core conserved forested area within South Mountain. This permanently protected area will include approximately 7 miles of trail to showcase the diverse flora and fauna found in this region. This property is adjacent to National Park Service Land for the Appalachian Trail. The acquisition of this property, the largest in the organization’s history, was made possible by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources of Conservation and Natural Resources and The Conservation Fund, Cumberland County, PA Recovery Grant Program, York County Parks Open Space and Land Preservation Program, The Nature Conservancy, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Wild East Action Fund. Thank you to our private donors for making projects like this possible for Central Pennsylvania Conservancy. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to acquire, preserve, and protect natural lands in south-central Pennsylvania! #conservation #pennsylvania #landprotection #nature #appalachiantrail #nonprofit

𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 Peggy Fogarty, M.S. 𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯! The past two weeks have been filled with new connections, inspiring work, and a warm welcome from the team and community. Thanks to everyone’s generosity in sharing time and knowledge, momentum is already building toward our mission — to acquire, preserve, and protect local land and natural resources in south central Pennsylvania. Early highlights included joining Cameron Weiser at the closing of an easement three years in the making (more details to follow in an upcoming announcement) and accompanying Anna Yelk for the Land Partnerships Plan presentation to the Cumberland County Commissioners. Time outdoors was equally memorable — exploring Letort Spring Garden Preserve with Jesse Price and enjoying a kayak float hosted by our partners at Manada Conservancy. Behind the scenes, Jo Ann Littlefield has been guiding the dive into budgets, grants, and the stories of our generous donors and supporters. Plans are underway for a community gathering — stay tuned! On a personal note, the accompanying photo shows me with my dad at the summit of Peter’s Mountain — a reminder of the beauty we work to protect and the connections these landscapes inspire. --- Central Pennsylvania Conservancy is proud to have protected over 6,200 acres of natural lands.
