That's why our employees took some time this afternoon to recognize GIS Day and learn more about what our GIS professionals do and how this technology touches all of our jobs and lives.

About us
The City of Mont Belvieu is located in Chambers and Liberty Counties in the state of Texas. It is just north of Interstate 10 along State Highway 146. It is estimated that the population in 2022 is approximately 8,340. The first permanent settlers to the area were Henry Griffith and his wife, Amelia Burrow. Both from the Louisiana area. After floating from Louisiana and landing in Mont Belvieu, they decided to settle there. Henry was a cattle rancher and at one time all of Mont Belvieu was used as pasture land for their cattle. Amos Barber became the second settler, and other settlers followed. After years of owning all of the land Griffith sold the deed to the land known today as Mont Belvieu. Henry Griffith died and was buried with no grave marker; Amelia soon followed. A memorial has been erected at the site of an old oak tree and there is a rumor that Amelia was buried just down the hill from where their house once stood, just down the road from Kenefick Veterinary clinic which now borders the Enterprise Products Inc. gas storage facility.

Our staff had quite the paw-ty today to recognize National Animal Shelter Week. 🎉 It was so awesome to see our city employees take time out of their day to see what our Animal Services staff does at the shelter every day, take a facility tour, and get to meet some fuzzy friends. It was a "sweet" time on Saturday as our community came together for the Barbers Hill Fall Fest put on by our friends at the Mont Belvieu Area Chamber of Commerce. There was no shortage of friends, fun, and, of course, food! It was great for our staff to meet and talk with so many people from across our area to play some games and talk about all the great things going on in MBTX.

We were very excited to have Dr. Amanda Garza from Houston Methodist Hospital - Baytown visit with our staff today. Her presentation on breast cancer awareness and prevention was informative and helpful. We are so thankful that our City of Mont Belvieu Health and Wellness Committee was able to arrange this great session for our employees!

This morning first responders from Mont Belvieu Fire Department and Mont Belvieu Police Department were joined by members of our City staff and Council to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11, 2001. We were proud to raise the flag high on Ladder 1 in honor of those who perished on that fateful day. #NeverForget

In honor of Child Passenger Safety Week, City Council recognized Mont Belvieu’s Car Seat Safety Team made up of members from both Mont Belvieu Fire Department and Mont Belvieu Police Department. Did you know that nearly half of car seats are installed incorrectly the first time? Always remember to use the right seat for your child’s age and size, keep harness straps snug, and never place a rear-facing seat in front of an active airbag. Thank you to our first responders for helping families in Mont Belvieu keep their children safe!
