We’re excited to welcome Kayla Casillas to the City of Torrance! Kayla's prior experience includes her work with the Upland Unified School District as a California Climate Action Corps Fellow, where she developed and implemented a compliance plan for SB 1383—a state law requiring the separation of organic waste from landfills. In her role here in Torrance, she will continue her work on SB 1383 compliance. Kayla also worked at the Disneyland Resort, where she was recognized as the 2023 Environmental Champion of the Year for her efforts in educating fellow Cast Members on proper waste-sorting procedures. As Kayla steps into this new role, she hopes to empower community members and commercial partners to feel confident that they can make a meaningful difference in protecting the environment through proper waste sorting. Welcome to #TeamTorrance, Kayla! #TorranceCA

We were honored to host a delegation from Taiwan led by Allen Chen, Secretary General of TEA-LA (Taiwan Eastbound Alliance – Landing America), to explore partnerships between Taiwanese industries and the Southern California region with Torrance serving as a hub for opportunity, investment, and innovation especially in the industries of healthcare, aerospace, UAV, hospitality, and food sectors. During their visit, we highlighted the WhyTorrance advantage and showcased local assets including Saltbox Torrance, the Regional Transit Center, and KOSME, all valuable resources for companies considering U.S. expansion through collaboration with local accelerators and university innovation center. Special thanks to Mike Lin of Taiwan Culture for his local insights and Frank Lin of National Taipei University of Technology for his international expertise in supporting tech startups. It was a productive meeting filled with meaningful discussions around foreign direct investment, business incubation, and exciting opportunities to bring new global enterprises to Torrance. #TorranceCA
