  • 'Tis the season for back-to-school pictures, and we didn't want to miss out on the fun! And to make it even more fun, learn how each team member as a kid would have answered, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" 🤓 Tim (our President and CEO) wanted to be a host of The Tonight Show. Watch out, Jimmy Fallon! Tess (our Administrative Assistant) wanted to be a pediatrician. 👩⚕️ Michelle (our Development Director) wanted to be a teacher. 🍎 Maggie (our Marketing Director) wanted to be a chef (mainly for perks like eating cookie dough). Pam (our VP of Finance & Operations) wanted to be a teacher, too, and said she frequently played school. Kelly (our Director of Programs & Donor Relations) also wanted to be a teacher, which fits well with how her role includes educating our nonprofits on grant opportunities! And Sara (our Scholarship & Programs Associate) wanted to be a mom, which is awesome because she just became a mom and is doing great! Whether you're a parent sending kids back to school, a teacher prepping for the year ahead, or a student yourself, we are celebrating the outstanding education our community offers. And we are so thankful that the generosity of our donors helps make it possible for us to support local educators who have out-of-the-box ideas to enhance the learning experience of their students. From new foam blocks and alphabet puppets to leadership development programs and needed resource kits, our Beyond Pencils and Crayons Grants help make education here better! #generosity #MarathonCounty #philanthropy #donors #communityfoundation

  • While Marathon County is beautiful year-round, there’s something special about this season’s endless outdoor opportunities. That’s why we’re excited to spotlight our partnership with the Central Wisconsin Offroad Cycling Coalition (CWOCC). Over the past 12 years, CWOCC has received more than $121,000 in Impact Grants from the Community Foundation, fueling local trail development that gets people outside and strengthens our community. Check out the difference CWOCC is making in our region! #givingback #nonprofit #MarathonCounty #philanthropy #communityfoundation #mountainbike

  • Since August is Make-A-Will month, it's an appropriate time to consider your future plans. Creating or updating your will isn’t just about passing on possessions—it’s about leaving a legacy that reflects your values, provides peace of mind for loved ones, and supports the causes that have shaped your life. Read our latest blog post for: 1. Why having a will matters 2. Philanthropy through your will 3. Getting started is easier than you think 4. • The numbers are in, and we are so excited to share! We awarded 256 scholarships that totaled $512,350 in our 2024/2025 season from the 152 scholarship funds we administer. 🤩 Our donors open scholarship funds for a variety of reasons, often to honor a loved one who has passed. And we are so thankful for their generosity and their care for local students. These funds are established for the good of students' futures. Education is SO IMPORTANT, and we love that we get to be a part of these students' stories of learning, growth, and next steps. ✏️🤓 #generosity #community #MarathonCounty #philanthropy #donors #communityfoundation #scholarships

  • "Oh, I didn't even know our community hosted that kind of thing!" How often do we find ourselves saying that or hearing that? Well, now is a great chance to GET IN THE KNOW on upcoming opportunities you might LOVE! Check out the special grant report telling you how Marathon County's arts scene is getting brighter (including events and opportunities)! Once a year, local nonprofits are invited to apply for a Community Arts grant, fueled by the generosity of our donors to the Wausau Marathon County Impact Funds and a generous contribution from the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation . $80,000 in Community Arts grants have been awarded, and we are so excited about these projects and the opportunities they will create. A few of the recipients include: Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Center for the Visual Arts CWCT ~ Central WI Children's Theatre Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra The Penguin Project of Central Wisconsin Grand Theater Wausau UW-Stevens Point at Wausau From art education to enhancing stage-lit performances, Community Arts grants make Marathon County a brighter place for everyone. • Financial advisors and estate planners, do you feel stuck in conversations about generational giving?    The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin and the Wausau Estate Planners Forum are hosting the Professional Advisor Symposium on October 30, and this year we're focusing on how to engage in deeper conversations with your clients.    Registration will open later this summer, but mark your calendars because space will be limited. AND this opportunity includes continuing education credits for attorneys, certified financial professionals, insurance professionals, and certified professional accountants.   Together, we'll learn from the keynote speaker, Lori Coonen, a Family Legacy Coach. Lori's discussion is titled, "The Conversation Toolkit: Building Deeper Client Relationships Across Generations." Through this energizing, interactive session, you'll master practical techniques to shift dialogue from dollars and documents to family, purpose, and lasting impact.    What you'll learn:  • Conversation starters to unlock family values discussions  • Frameworks for navigating emotionally charged planning topics • Techniques to align multiple generations around a shared purpose   More details to come this Summer!

  • The week started with one of our favorite events of the year - the Youth Philanthropy Leadership Program Capstone! Local high school juniors and seniors in the program have gathered every month since this fall to learn about philanthropy - how nonprofits work, what it means to fundraise, and they actually give real grants away! These fantastic young people care about our community. They are current and future leaders, and we are so proud of them! At the capstone event, the students awarded grants to these local nonprofits, all of whom applied for a grant with a youth-specific request: 1. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin 2. Habitat for Humanity of Wausau 3. Boys & Girls Club of the Wausau Area 4. Monk Botanical Gardens 5. CASA of Marathon County 6. Children's Imaginarium 7. GiGi's Playhouse Wausau 8. Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum So many individuals have made this program and these grants possible! Thank you to the students for your dedication and love for our community. Thank you to the program leaders and mentors for your time and for believing that youth can learn philanthropy. Thank you to the Youth Philanthropy donors - your generosity makes it possible for the students to do real grantmaking, accomplishing so much good for them AND for more youth who will benefit for years to come because of the grants. And thank you to Wausau Infused for hosting us - the space is BEAUTIFUL! We love this program and had a great time celebrating another year of Youth Philanthropy! #MarathonCounty #philanthropy #donors #communityfoundation #generosity #youthphilanthropy #students

  • The generosity of our donors is strengthening the future of our local healthcare! How so? The Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin campus was established with the help of one of our Impact Grants, and now, almost a decade later, the majority of graduates are planting roots in Wisconsin after residency and practicing medicine locally. Fueled by our donors, Wausau Marathon County Impact Grants support our community's health and human services, education, the arts, and resource preservation. These grants make our community brighter! Watch the full Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin story at cfoncw.org/stories along with other grant recipient stories, showcasing the impact our donors have right here in Marathon County. #generosity #community #nonprofit #donors #communityfoundation

  • Did you know that we have a medical college in our community? If not, you're probably in the majority. But we do, and after almost a decade, many graduates are practicing physicians in our community. The Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin is the featured organization in our next Impact Grant video. The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin awarded the college an Impact Grant to help establish the local campus. Watch the video to hear from Dr. Lisa Dodson, one of the visionaries to bring the local campus to life, on why the college is so essential for the future of our local healthcare, and meet two recent graduates to learn how the college provides opportunities for people to continue their education without relocating. We're so thankful that the generosity of our donors empowers such impactful grantmaking. Our community is getting brighter and brighter! 🤩✨
