Yesterday, CTECS had the opportunity to meet with colleagues from Southern Connecticut State University and Quinnipiac University to discuss the many ways we can partner to support future educators. Superintendent Mike Crocco, Interim Principal Natalie Willis, and Dr. Alice Pritchard shared an overview of CTECS and Eli Whitney Technical High School, highlighting opportunities for student teaching, internships, field experiences, and more. CTECS offers a truly unique learning environment, one that gives student teachers the experience to grow as an educator and be part of something bigger: preparing students for life and work beyond the classroom. It’s also a pathway to state employment, which adds another meaningful dimension for education prep students exploring their career options. With 17 technical high schools across Connecticut, we have plenty to offer and we would love to welcome student teachers into our schools. If your program is interested in exploring a partnership or scheduling a visit, we’d be excited to connect.

So, it's been a year! I can't believe how much I've learned over the past year as the Executive Director at Connecticut Technical Education and Career System. It's an honor to represent CTECS and share with others the story of our strong system, dedicated staff, talented students, committed advisory board members and engaged stakeholders. We have much to be proud of and lots of work still to come to fully realize the potential of our system. I am proud of the significant progress we've made across the system. From administrative assessments and operational improvements to partnership development and program expansion, we have taken concrete steps to strengthen our schools, improve operations, and expand opportunities for students statewide. Thanks to all for your support this past year. I look forward to 2026 and our shared success!

Yesterday, we celebrated the grand opening of the new Bullard-Havens Technical High School, a major investment in our students, the Bridgeport community, and the future workforce of Connecticut. This state-of-the-art facility represents exactly what technical education should look like: innovative, industry-aligned, and built to give every student a pathway to an in-demand career. This project would not have been possible without the partnership and hard work of so many. Special recognition to: • Kevin McFarland, RA, NCARB, Donald Poulin, Dr. Susan Foss, and the entire Bullard-Havens team • Our CO consultants who prepared the trade spaces • Connecticut Department of Administrative Services Construction Services project management team for their unwavering support What makes us most proud is knowing that this school has the power to change the trajectory of a young person’s life. It represents an opportunity for students, for families, and for the city of Bridgeport. Here’s to the next generation of skilled workers who will learn, grow, and thrive in this incredible new space.

#FeelGoodFriday brought to you by the incredible work of our Ellis Tech students automotive students. A community member recently came to our Ellis Tech with a special request: he had spent years searching for the 1956 Continental he once drove to prom with his wife. Hoping to take her, now in declining health, on one final nostalgic ride. He found a similar 1957 Continental but needed help getting it safely back on the road. Our Ellis students stepped up. They restored the brakes and steering, ensuring the car was ready for one last, meaningful trip together. This is what it's all about - students using their skills to make a real difference in people’s lives. #CTEWorks #CommunityImpact #StudentDriven
