What really drew me to join Cubesmart was the people and the leadership vision. I was inspired by how the leadership team is thinking about using technology to modernize the self-storage industry. I saw a real opportunity to make an impact – not just by building great applications, but by helping shape the digital direction of a business that’s actively transforming a traditional industry. What have you learned so far about our industry of self-storage that you didn’t know before but find interesting? I have learned that the self-storage industry is far more dynamic, and tech driven than I realized before I joined. Self-storage is already a low-impact real estate sector, but we continue to push ourselves to reduce our environmental footprint even further through initiatives such as: 🔆 Solar Expansion: 118 owned properties now operate with solar installations, with another 19 projects in process. ❄️ Energy-Efficient HVAC: All systems upgraded between 2019–2021 to Energy Star equipment, eliminating R22 refrigerant. 💡 High-Efficiency Lighting: Completed exterior LED lighting upgrades across our entire portfolio, and converted interior lighting to LED at 193 stores through 2024. 📊 Energy Management Systems: Installed at 88 high-usage stores to automate and reduce energy consumption. 📄 Paper Reduction: Technology enhancements like SmartRental have reduced paper and toner use by ~60%. We are grateful for the dedication of our teams and partners who help make these efforts possible. In honor of #VeteransDay, we would like to highlight one of our own teammates, Robert Goodman who served in the Army from 1985 to 1990 as a Combat Engineer in Germany. Rob shared that his experience as an engineer officer taught him that it’s important to be resourceful and to listen to others in order to be successful at accomplishing any assignment, no matter how big or small. His experience in Germany also taught him the importance of volunteering your time to help others. After a natural disaster destroyed a bridge that was important in supporting local agriculture traffic, he and his soldiers sprung into action and built a Bailey bridge (originally developed in WWII) until a permanent bridge was funded. The message here is that sometimes tried and true solutions are the best approach to solving difficult problems. #VeteransDay #CubeSmartProud #ThankYouForYourService
