AI isn’t magic. In financial services, it’s minimal valuable governance, semantics, and execution. I’m excited to join Anand Pandya (Hakkōda, an IBM Company), Don Henderson (BetaNXT) and Greg Bonnette (Sigma) to discuss AI strategies from Top Financial Firms. We’ll be sharing the real data and experiences from the field, including: 💡 How top FSI teams turn chaos into clarity, without the shiny hype 💡 Governance & architecture moves that really accelerate AI adoption 💡 Concrete examples of AI driving measurable business impact If you’re in banking, fintech, insurance, or asset management, and you want execution over theory, this is worth your hour. No smoke. No mirrors. Just what’s working. 📌 Registeration link in the comments

Shreddin’ the gnar and the data chaos at #SnowflakeSummit2025 🏂 From the blizzard booths to the espresso shots, the data.world team showed up in full force at Snowflake Summit in San Francisco. With the launch of our new Data Marketplace and a spotlight on Archie Chat, it was a Summit to remember. We hosted two booth spots, our Honest, No BS Dinner, and co-hosted an unforgettable networking event for women in data with our friends at Hakkōda and Bigeye. AI dominated the conversation (shocker), but the real talk was around consolidation and the growing need for AI-ready data. We’ve got thoughts on that, and a whole lot more. Another #HonestNoBS Dinner during the Databricks Data + AI Summit. Here are the takeaways:  ✅ What’s Working - LLM can make a sexy demo, it’s flashy and talkative. Remember ML for tried and true use cases - LLM for labeling data, summarization, content development, strategic feedback, semantic search, similarity search - LLMs used for answering things that don’t have to have a 100% right answer - Productivity increases can be big for the senior engineers  - Junior programmers! They need to become senior   - Mentoring is fun - Graphs are finally getting the attention it deserves. GenAI is the catalyst  - Data modeling is collaborative and “it’s life changing stuff” to be able to do that with junior developers and grow and evolve and make that impact - Simple things, done well, works. For example, serverless query - simple, just works, less to think about - Technology does simply the means so we can get to the ends  - Compute. - People thinking about semantics and ontologies. Foundational governance in place, able to think about next level governance and especially semantics/ontology. Thinking about it Maslow's hierarchy of data needs: 1) Basic metadata of tables and columns, 2) Semantic layer for BI, 3) Ontology  - Easier to edit metadata. Using GenAI helps creating a first version ❌ What’s Not Working - Feeling all AI’d out - Everyone thinks AI = LLM - Is there real monetization? There are productivity gains. But not at the top line.  - Vibe coding. Not understanding the problem you are trying to solve. “Solving the problem” knowing that there was an easier way of solving it and making it more resource efficient. It’s borderline unethical  - Many people don’t really appreciate why graph - and people think of graph as a “blob” - people don’t say oh the answer is “relational” - Building the dashboard and having users extract the xls.  - AI cool latest stuff (MCP, a2a) is distracting to solve the really business problem. It’s a moving target  - Hype distracts the roadmap to solve the actual problem  - “Can we GenAIfy this”  - But we still can’t count how many customers we have  - We make things more complicated than they should be.  - Lack search and discovery tools for unstructured data (images, text, audio) 💬 Other Real Talk - "This should be working… but does it really?” - Not planning is working until it doesn’t work. Then you rebuild the entire system.   - Watch “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” - Dishwashers and washing machines really changed our lives for the better. Who wants to wash dishes and clothes. Is GenAI giving us that?  - Will we be reporting the number of customers, human employees and… ai agents? Or is it a gimmick to increase valuation.  - Metadata is hot. Wouldn’t have thought about it a few years ago. Still need to figure out the what and how. I’m curious, what resonates or not from this one? Drop it below 👇
