Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our OC Office Open House! It was great to welcome clients, partners, colleagues, and friends into our new space in Orange and reconnect with so many of the people we work with throughout the region. 🍊🏗️ Our OC team officially moved from Anaheim to our new office in October, and we were excited to finally share the space with our community: Orange Executive Tower 1100 Town and Country Road, Suite 1388 Orange, CA 92868 We also want to extend our appreciation to the partners who helped make this office possible: SmithGroup, PeopleSpace - A Best In Class Haworth Partner, KNR Builders, and Summit Construction Management. Last week, Senior Principal and Office Director, Daniel Zepeda, and Associate Principal and Engineering Manager, Jose Antonio Flores Ruiz, visited the Institute of Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) to present "Experiencias en Eventos Sísmicos" (or Experiences in Seismic Events) to a hybrid audience of students, researchers, and practitioners. Their talk highlighted lessons learned from recent seismic events, best practices in post-earthquake assessment, and how engineering judgment evolves through real-world response efforts. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange knowledge, answer thoughtful question from students, and connect with the next generation of seismic engineers. A huge thank-you to UNAM for hosting us and to everyone who joined in person and online! We’re grateful for the chance to collaborate and contribute to conversations that advance earthquake resilience across our regions.

Grateful for our continued collaboration across offices! Thank you to Robert Pekelnicky for sharing his QA/QC insights with our Mexico team, and to our colleagues in San José del Cabo for showcasing the impactful work underway. Strong processes and shared expertise help us deliver the best outcomes for the communities we serve.
Grateful to have had Robert Pekelnicky visit our Degenkolb Engineers Mexico office to share his insights on our QA/QC process. His perspective and experience truly reinforce the values we prioritize at Degenkolb. After the session, we visited one of our ongoing projects: an office building in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, designed by Ares Arquitectos together with the Degenkolb Engineers Mexico team. It was a great opportunity to see our work in the field and discuss how strong QA/QC practices continue to shape better outcomes for our clients and communities.

Thanksgiving came early at Degenkolb with our offices—including the featured San Francisco, Orange County, and Los Angeles teams—gathering for food and time together ahead of the long weekend. In structural engineering, we spend a lot of time thinking about what supports a building. This week was a good reminder of what supports us—our people, our teams, and the communities we work with every day. Wishing everyone a restful and meaningful Thanksgiving! 🦃

Hard hats, curiosity, and future engineers in the making! 🏗️✨ Our team had an inspiring morning joining the ACE Mentor Program LA/OC for a behind-the-scenes tour of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with students from Girls Academic Leadership Academy (GALA). A huge thank you to Aram Valartha Nayaki Subramanian for representing Degenkolb and showing the students that even everyday essential buildings like hospitals require the same level of planning, coordination, and technical care as iconic structures. This site visit really brought that lesson to life! We’re especially grateful to the Harbor-UCLA project team for making it happen on short notice: • Austin Milliren, Field Engineer, HENSEL PHELPS • Joseph Kazane, Project Engineer, HENSEL PHELPS And for their guidance and support from ACE and GALA: • Anne Ettley, ACE LA/OC Chapter Lead • Donna Clandening, GALA’s ACE Board Liaison • Stacey Thomas, GALA Architecture Teacher This tour also highlighted the power of cross-office teamwork, with our Los Angeles and Orange County teams, namely Phuoc Tran, collaborating to make the visit happen. Degenkolb has proudly volunteered with ACE for many years, mentoring students and inspiring the next generation of engineers. We encourage colleagues in the region with active project sites to welcome the ACE community to their campuses—there’s nothing like seeing engineering in action to spark a future career! The ACE Mentor Program of America, founded in 1994, is a no-cost after-school program connecting high school students with design and construction experts. It addresses workforce needs, bridges the skills gap, and offers exciting opportunities from mentorship all the way through full-time employment. Moments like these are why mentorship matters. #ACEMentor #Mentorship #FutureEngineers #DegenkolbEngineers #EngineeringEducation #GirlsInSTEM

DBIA 2025 brought together some of the best minds in design build, and we were proud to be part of the conversation. John Matuska and John J Raad, PE, representing Ruby+Associates, a Degenkolb Company, and Degenkolb Engineers, joined industry partners from Barton Malow and General Motors to present “Design Build in Motion: General Motors’ Shift to Integrated, Tech Driven Delivery.” They dug into how collaboration and technology are reshaping industrial projects, sharing lessons on integrated delivery, managing design risk, and leveraging digital coordination tools to keep complex work moving efficiently. We’re grateful for the chance to share our perspective and connect with leaders who are pushing the future of design build forward.
