At the 2025 Welcome Home Gala presented by Headlands Technologies LLC, the DIGS community donated an incredible $276,500 to support our mission and impact! These gifts will support more than 50 future DIGS families in need of a home, as well as allowing our organization to grow into a larger warehouse space with increased capacity to collect furniture donations and serve more Chicago families. From all of us at Digs with Dignity, thank you for your kindness and generosity in our mission to break the cycle of homelessness. Since 2019, we have furnished homes for 250 Chicago families in need. With your continued support, we are so excited to head into another year of impactful work!

“At a time when our neighbors need us most, we are so grateful to our incredible DIGS community for showing up with such generosity. 95% of surveyed DIGS families are still housed. That’s proof that having a fully furnished home has been a powerful step in breaking the cycle of homelessness. We can’t wait to come together at this year’s Welcome Home Gala to celebrate 250 Chicago families who now have a place to truly call home.” – Kim Hannay, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Digs with Dignity Join us Thursday 10/23 at Lacuna Lofts for an evening of impact! Get to know the keynote speaker at the 2025 DIGS Welcome Home Gala: Ernest Crim III is a modern-day griot, educator, and cultural competency specialist who uses overlooked historical narratives as a catalyst for healing, justice, and transformation. As a former public school history teacher turned speaker, author, Emmy-nominated producer, and CEO of Crim’s Cultural Consulting, Ernest empowers schools, companies, and communities to bridge cultural divides through truth-telling, empathy, and antiracist education. His content reaches millions across social media, where he dismantles whitewashed narratives and centers the resilience and innovation of Black people throughout history. A survivor of a viral hate crime, Ernest has transformed personal pain into public purpose, using storytelling to inspire change, challenge injustice, and amplify historically silenced voices. At his core, Ernest is a liberator, and a protector of legacy who is committed to educating the present while building a freer future for generations to come for all of humanity. And most importantly, he is a family man, who currently resides in the Chicago area with his wife and four daughters. Hear from Ernest about the importance of Digs with Dignity's work at our upcoming Welcome Home Gala on Thursday, October 23 at Lacuna Lofts. 🩵 Happy DIGS Day Last week, volunteers from Bowery & Bash joined us to furnish this apartment for an anonymous man who is thrilled to live on his own after two years in a shelter. He has worked hard to create a fresh start for himself. Finally having a home of his own is a huge step forward in his journey to stability. Welcome home!

Volunteers from Strata Decision Technology joined us for their 2nd DIGS Day of the year to furnish this space for a single mom of 2. While Mom works toward her nursing degree, she gets her joy from raising an 8 year old daughter who loves drawing and a 3 year old son who is currently obsessed with posing in front of mirrors. She was completely floored when she came back to a fully furnished home at the end of the day, saying “Everything just goes perfect. Can I give everybody a hug?” 🩵 Welcome home!

Domestic violence and housing instability work hand-in-hand to disrupt the lives of so many families across the world, including more than 30% of the families Digs with Dignity has served since 2019. We have worked with so many people who bravely fled abusive partners, leaving all of their belongings behind with the hope of creating a safer future. Single parents who just want to raise their children in a loving environment. Children who left their books and toys behind. That’s why we ask questions like “What’s your favorite color?” and “What do your kids like to do?” when we first meet our DIGS families. That’s why we work to create a space that feels like home for every individual we meet. Home should be safe. Home should be peaceful. For DIGS families, home is a place where healing happens. This month and every month, all of us at Digs with Dignity are proud to support families impacted by domestic violence in our mission to break the cycle of homelessness.
