Did you know 1.3 billion people worldwide live with a disability? That's 1 in 6 people. On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we’re reminded that inclusion is not optional. It's how we build communities where everyone belongs. 💙

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sarge, a beloved comedian, author and motivational speaker known for his quick wit, soulful talent and inspiring life story. He brought so much heart and humor to our community, including memorable performances at several of our fundraising events. We send heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory bring comfort and peace.

“Every ‘thank you so much’ or ‘I am so grateful’ strengthens my connection to Goodman JFS and reminds me of my responsibility to give back.” ✨ Sharri Gordon’s connection to Goodman Jewish Family Services began nearly eight years ago, shortly after our Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard first opened its doors. “Through my involvement with other communal organizations, I learned about some of the life-strengthening and sustaining services that Goodman JFS provides. I remember feeling incredibly proud that leaders in our community recognized the growing concern of food insecurity and procured the resources to establish a kosher food pantry in Broward County. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of it.” Since then, Sharri has become a dedicated donor and volunteer, packing food, assisting clients during their visits and delivering groceries to those who cannot get to the Cupboard. “I don’t know that I can pinpoint a single moment that reinforced my commitment. Every face-to-face interaction with a client, each ‘thank you so much’ or ‘I am so grateful,’ strengthens my connection to the organization and reminds me why I do this.” Sharri is also proud to share these values with her family. “I try to instill the values of tzedakah and tikkun olam in my children. One of my proudest mom moments was being honored alongside my daughter and fellow Cupboard volunteer at the Feed the Need luncheon.” Though she has never experienced food insecurity herself, Sharri recognizes how quickly circumstances can change. “Goodman JFS is here to help and empower those in need in our community, from at-risk individuals and families and neurodivergent adults to Holocaust survivors and veterans. I’m so proud to support an organization that touches so many lives in so many ways every single day.” 💙 Thank you, Sharri, for the compassion and commitment you bring to the Goodman JFS family.

Yesterday was something special. With the help of our community we provided 650 ready-to-eat turkey dinners and 250 turkeys to more than 600 families getting ready for the holidays at our Thanksgiving Table Food Distribution, in memory of Chef Howie Kleinberg. We had over 100 volunteers, including the David Posnack Jewish Day School Football Team, and we were honored to welcome US Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Thank you to every group that hosted a November food drive: Young Israel of Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale, Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El PTO, Temple Sholom, Temple Beth El, The Kabbalah Centre, Brauser Maimonides Academy, David Posnack Jewish Day School and BBYO. Your support filled our shelves and our hearts. And a very special thanks to our fundraising co-chairs, Susan Kleinberg and Amy Wildstein, for helping make this holiday possible for so many. Grateful is an understatement. 💙

We’re feeling especially grateful for our incredible staff today. Our Thanksgiving potluck was such a meaningful moment to slow down, share a meal together and appreciate the people who bring so much heart to this work. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of the holiday season, but moments like this remind us how lucky we are to have a team that supports one another and shows up with kindness every single day. 💙🦃

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Janet Steinman 🌟 “After returning from Israel in 2024, I wanted to do more for my Jewish community. With my youngest son finishing high school, I finally had the time to get involved, and the RAK PAK Clothing Closet of Goodman JFS felt like the perfect place to give back. I love that the RAK PAK Clothing Closet helps families across Broward County through partnerships with so many different agencies. Meeting clients face-to-face reminds me who we’re helping, and it makes the experience even more meaningful. One of my favorite moments was giving a young boy a brand new pair of sneakers and seeing both his and his mom’s smiles. As a mother, it felt like such a privilege to help another parent make their child feel special. I know how it feels to have nothing but the clothes on my back after losing everything in a fire, and that experience drives me to keep giving. My car usually has a bag of donations ready to go because helping others has become part of my everyday life. When my kids see me volunteering, I know they’re learning the value of Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam, helping others and healing the world.” Thank you Janet for turning compassion into action and inspiring others to do the same. 💙
