Skagit County farmers just got a major boost! Cairnspring Mills and the Port of Skagit hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the expansion of their granary, a public investment that gives local growers and millers the storage, efficiency and value chain they need to keep more of their harvest dollars in the community. Chad Fisher Construction served as the general contractor and civil subcontractor, and Facet led the project’s structural engineering services from schematic design through completion. Facet's work included the hopper silo, the bag house, the foot grain tower, multiple large diameter silos and the 15,200 square foot facility that brings the operation together. These structures increase storage capacity for both grain and flour, which directly strengthens the farm to mill to bakery pipeline. Port Executive Director Sara Young summed up the momentum: “It’s really been an exciting project. This is really phase one. We have additional expansion plans that we will continue to work with Cairnspring as we have the opportunity.” Facet team members in attendance were Lacey Penner, Stephen Tabert, PE, SE, and Russell DeVries. #StructuralEngineering #WashingtonAgriculture #SkagitValley #CommunityInfrastructure #Facet #PortofSkagit

Congratulations on your 5-year anniversary Devin! Your teamwork and ability to tackle complex projects is greatly appreciated. Great work on completing these exciting projects: King County Analysis of Urban Tree Protections. Devin helped to complete a collaborative effort for King County to research model tree protection ordinances within the County and across the nation. This body of research provided much needed guidance to jurisdictions on best practices for tree regulations that protect the urban forest canopy. Blackberry Beach. Devin oversaw all environmental assessment and permitting work associated with the restoration of a shared community shoreline on Mercer Island. This work, which was recently completed, included restoration of a portion of the shoreline and access and amenity improvements.
