  • “Ironically, I did not choose this profession, it chose me. Almost 30 years ago I walked into a high school building and instantly knew this is where I belonged. This was to be a pit stop but became a journey. The conversations, challenges, celebrations, accomplishments, and relationships built with these young individuals inspired me to be a better me. They are my ‘why.’ Every day I look forward to supporting, advocating, and inspiring our youth.” Raquel Joyner Special Education Department Chairperson/Coordinator Quander Road School #TeacherTuesday

  • “I have always had a love for children and teaching them became my dream and goal. I volunteered as often as I could in my son’s FCPS school so I could be involved with his learning and to get hands on experience. I was also involved with the PTA. I became a substitute teacher while I pursued my degree. I was eventually hired as an Instructional Assistant and, in this position, my heart exploded as I was able to get to know our kids and see and experience their growth. I wanted more which brings me to the present, a 2nd grade teacher at Centreville Elementary where I am a member of the community and have been blessed with being a part of the CES/FCPS family for 8 years.” Tammi Milburn 2nd Grade Teacher Centreville Elementary School #FCPSTeacherTuesday If you'd like to join the #FCPSFam and become a teacher with FCPS, apply now! 🎉 Celebrating a Milestone: The ANCHOR Program Launches its First Professional Development Session! 🎉 What an incredible day bringing the ANCHOR Induction Program vision to reality! We successfully hosted the inaugural Professional Development session for over 120 principals' administrative assistants representing all levels and Regions across FCPS. It was amazing to gather these vital operational staff members to make connections, collaborate, and provide a dedicated space for them to learn and grow. We believe this investment in professional development will yield lasting benefits for our school communities and our entire division. Our AAs truly serve as the ANCHOR of every school: Advocates, Navigators, Connectors, Hubs, Organizers, and Resources! Our first PD session was packed with high-value learning, focused on empowering our administrative assistants (AAs) with innovative tools to improve efficiency and ensure long-term success. The agenda included: True Colors assessment with Lydia Martinez from Labor Relations, giving insight on communications and working in teams. Project Management principles for AAs, including streamlining the Action and Infogram, presented by Cassandra Baltimore, Hayfield SS. Actionable AI Tools for AAs (specifically Google Gems) to help solve real-world tasks like the "SUB PUZZLE," shared by Mel Mollick, Summer Johnson, and Pamela Galietta, School Technology Innovation Partners. This successful launch is a testament to the power of collaboration between the Office of the Chief of Schools, Human Resources, and the Office of Professional Learning (OPL). Mary Beth Anderson from OPL was the guiding force and a shining star whose leadership enabled this work to be truly meaningful and successful for all. A huge thank you to our engaged administrative assistants—your participation and commitment to professional growth are what make this community thrive!
