𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘐 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯—𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘳, 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳?
That question set the tone for our engaging conversations at #AvataarDialogues US, where I hosted a panel on AI TRiSM (AI Trust, Risk, and Safety for models and agents).
We brought together two leaders with a buyer’s perspective and two with a builder’s perspective on AI governance, risk, and safety:
𝐁𝐮𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬
Ramesh Sarukkai, CPO & CTO at Rate Inc., one of the largest online mortgage brokers that extensively uses AI.
Merritt Baer, CSO at Enkrypt AI and former Deputy #CISO at Amazon #AWS, who works closely with customers to deploy AI safely.
𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬
Sekhar Sarukkai, founder of a new AI safety venture and previously founder of Skyhigh Networks (acquired by McAfee).
Manoj Saxena, founder & CEO of Trustwise 𝐀𝐈 and Chairman of the Responsible AI Institute.
The discussion explored 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘐 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴, such as automation, product innovation, and operational intelligence, and 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬, such as a lack of governance frameworks, safety protocols, and skilled teams.
𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐡 described the rigorous policies and reviews required before AI applications can go live at Rate.
𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭 spoke about how buyer evaluation criteria for AI vendors have evolved during the last few years.
𝐒𝐞𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐫 outlined how the AI stack is shifting from copilots to autonomous execution.
𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐣 discussed failure modes in agentic AI, such as hallucinations, data leakage, and coercion, and argued for 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 as the only adequate safeguard.
Each panellist agreed that safety and governance do not slow AI adoption; they enable it. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦 “𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 𝘈𝘐” 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.
We closed with a question that will define the coming decade: 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘐 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘥?
This panel is the kind of dialogue Avataar Venture Partners aims to foster—𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘈𝘐.
And as we celebrate milestones of our portfolio companies like Capillary Technologies’ recent IPO, it is clear that governance, discipline, and long-term building create durable success—in technology and in markets.
