Girl Scouts from Troop 832 in Swansea have been busy the last few months! In October, they participated in Bay Cost Bank’s Trunk or Treat in Swansea, greeting families, running games and handing out candy. In early November, they volunteered carrying groceries to cars for over two hours at the Annelle Hagerman-Delorme Food Pantry in Somerset; providing value to the pantry as they saw a two-fold increase in clients that distribution. And recently, they volunteered for two hours wrapping gifts in Swansea for Bags of Hope; an organization that provides personalized duffle bags filled with comfort items and gifts to kids in foster care during the holidays After all that incredible volunteering, they took a trip to visit the Kendra Scott Color Bar where each Girl Scout was able to create their own piece of custom jewelry! And the best part is, Kendra Scott is sending 20% of sales from that party back to GSSNE. Amazing job, Girl Scouts!

Girl Scouts and volunteers from Troop 602 in Newport/Middletown recently participated in helping pack over 300 care packages for Operation Holiday Cheer! Troop 602 has been participating in Operation Holiday Cheer for 10 years! Operation Holiday Cheer is an annual care package initiative for Rhode Island service members stationed away from home during the holidays. GSSNE donated 2,406 containers of nuts to be used in the care packages this year. The Girl Scout Honey Roasted Peanuts were a staple item this year; being sent to Rhode Island Service Members serving away from home, and to veteran food pantries, the VFW pantries and more! Amazing work, Girl Scouts!

We’re so excited to announce that the Honorary Cookie Chair for the 2025-2026 Cookie Season is Ali Hornung! Ali is a passionate childhood cancer advocate and the former Miss Rhode Island 2024. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, she holds degrees in Global Business Management, German, and Human Development & Family Sciences. Her advocacy began at age 12, inspired by her honorary “little sister” Ella, who courageously battled leukemia for three years. Ella’s strength continues to drive Ali’s mission to bring comfort, hope, and tangible support to children and families facing cancer. Ali is the founder of the Glimmer of Hope Foundation, Ali has raised nearly $1 million to support childhood cancer awareness and holistic health initiatives. Her work has led her from local communities to national platforms, including speaking before Congress and serving on a panel at the White House for President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot initiative. The 2026 service project recipient will be the Glimmer of Hope Foundation. Glimmer of Hope Foundation is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that shows girls and boys their strength and beauty through the donation of bald dolls and provides HOPE to families battling childhood cancer.
