Last week, Cyberus AI took on the challenge of picking and sorting a pile of clothes, specifically 'blue socks' and a 'beige cap'. The process started with teleoperated sorting runs with a robot model. This phase took about 3 hours and was followed by a data curation and processing phase to select the most relevant data for training. Then this led to the next step—training an autonomous controller. After of 12 hours training with our algorithm, we performed several tests where it successfully sorted 7 items, with two additional ones added manually for further validation. We didn’t stop there. To push boundaries, the team worked to increase the controller’s speed, surpassing the original teleoperation speed. Remarkably, they managed to achieve double the speed (X2) while maintaining solid performance, showcasing Cyberus AI’s efficiency and precision. #artificialintelligence #roboticarms #binpicking #autonomous

Continuum robots are a unique class of robots inspired by biological structures like octopus arms, with the ability to bend continuously at any point along their length. This characteristic provides these robots with effectively infinite degrees of freedom (DoF), making them exceptionally flexible and ideal for navigating tight or complex environments, such as in medical surgeries or hazardous exploration. Unlike traditional rigid-link robots, continuum robots do not have joints but rely on a flexible backbone and various actuation mechanisms like hydraulic systems or cable tendons for movement. Now, let's imagine what happens if a continuum robot were to have truly infinite DoF. Such a robot would theoretically be capable of manipulating its shape in an entirely unrestricted manner, able to move seamlessly into any form, orientation, or position without any mechanical limitations. This would involve managing an unbounded number of configuration states, implying an infinite-dimensional control system. The mathematics to describe such a robot would require a near-continuous function to map all its spatial positions and forces. Such computational power, energy requirements, and control precision make it practically impossible with our current technology, leading to numerous challenges in implementation, including accuracy, feedback control, and material limitations. So, given this incredible flexibility, what do you think would be the practical applications for continuum robots if we could someday control them with near-infinite precision?
