This week, our marketing team had the joy of welcoming UC Berkeley students back to campus at the annual Dorm Dash event! At our booth, we connected with more than 200 students, many of them international students who were new to Goodwill and curious about the world of thrifting. It was an incredible opportunity to share who we are and how Goodwill shows up for our community. Students loved learning about the exclusive UC Berkeley discount and about the many ways to shop and save across the six counties we serve. Our giant Connect Four game drew lots of laughs (and some competitive matches between students and our team)! We left inspired by the energy and thrift-loving spirit of the students we met. A huge thank-you to the University of California, Berkeley Student Union for their partnership and our retail team leaders, Shara Hight and Kassie Lilly, for making it possible for us to show up in the community. Creating life changing opportunities through the power of work. 100% local 100% nonprofit.
About us
With the support of our entire community, we create life changing opportunities through training and the power of work. Goodwill SF Bay serves thousands of people in our community every year who are emerging from military service, incarceration, homelessness, recovery from addiction – or simply lacking education or job skills. We provide no cost career services, job training and connections to jobs at Goodwill or one of our 334 employer partners. Goodwill relies on a combination of material and financial donations. While many nonprofits must raise 100% of their operating and program budget, our employment social enterprise allows us to leverage every item donated through our 33 donation centers and purchased at one of our 34 stores, 2 warehouse outlets or online - to generate 85% of the revenue we need. This leaves a gap of 15% to be raised through philanthropy and government support.

Connecting, Sharing, and Celebrating Community! This past weekend, GEN ALVAREZ, CRCR, PMP our Community Engagement Lead, and Cynthia Alexander, Director of Marketing, had the joy of representing Goodwill SF Bay at the annual Laurel StreetFair World Music Fest in Oakland’s historic Laurel District where thousands of locals and visitors came out to enjoy the music and family activities across eight city blocks, starting right in front of the Goodwill on MacArthur Blvd. The team hosted a table in front of the store and connected with dozens of shoppers and festival goers throughout the day. A huge thank you to Elizabeth Derbigny, Store Manager, and her incredible team. The store looked fantastic. It was welcoming, well-stocked, and buzzing with friendly conversations about our upcoming sale day. (🛍️Come shop 50% off all used items on Saturday, August 16 from 9 AM - 9PM) So many shoppers bragged about their Goodwill finds, including the beautiful shopper below, posing with her mom. #shegotitatgoodwill We met new clients and were able to introduce more people to the range of career-building services we offer. Many were surprised to learn how every sale and donation helps fund these programs. Events like this help our community see the full impact of shopping and donating to Goodwill. Congratulations to our friends at the Laurel District Association for another successful event! Congratulations to Goodwill San Francisco Bay President & CEO Tim O’Neal!
CEO @ Goodwill of Central & Northern Arizona, Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay, Goodwill Industries of the Monocacy Valley, and Thrive Services Group | Executive Leadership
Leading a Goodwill is 100% a work of heart 🥰 I was deeply honored to share the stage last week as the 2025 winner of the prestigious Kenneth K. King Outstanding Management Award for Executive Excellence. With that, I join a fellowship of CEO's who have shared a common journey leading the world's most effective social impact engine (Goodwill) - converting gently-used goods into life-changing services for our local communities. I couldn't have asked for a better team of supporters at home (Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona, Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley, Inc., Goodwill San Francisco Bay) or of peer CEOs internationally. It takes a village to continue to steward a 120 year old brand into a bright future. It's the work of my lifetime, and being recognized for my professional contributions means the world to me. Onward, as we continue to grow, innovate, and shape the future of thrift retail and impactful human service programs locally and globally! ♻️ 🎉 🌟
