Classical Education. Revolutionary Schools.
About us
Since its inception, Great Hearts has been on a mission to become a national leader in public charter schools. We work tirelessly to ensure our students receive an outstanding classical liberal arts education. Our program is anchored in exceptional teaching from the best in the profession and the support of committed families who make each school a thriving community. Today, we serve more than 25,000 students at 45 academies across Arizona, Louisiana, and Texas as well as through our online academies. From our humble beginnings as a single entity in rented space, we have become Arizona’s largest not-for-profit charter school network, the largest “brick and mortar” classical education provider in the country, and we are excited about working with new partners to extend this education to eager students nationwide. We gladly prepare our graduates for success in the best universities in the nation, but our main purpose is the formation of the soul, heart, and mind. We believe that the highest goal of education is to become good, intellectually and morally.

Great Hearts’ Teacher Apprentice program offers a supportive pathway for aspiring teachers to learn the art of teaching under the guidance of mentors and coaches. Today we visit with Mrs. Allie Constable, second grade Lead Teacher at Archway Scottsdale - A Great Hearts Academy. “I had a very organic path to becoming a Lead Teacher at Archway Scottsdale,” she shares—a journey that began not in the classroom, but as a devoted parent volunteering whenever she could. As she stepped into deeper service through roles like Room Parent and Yearbook Coordinator, she found herself “falling in love with being at Archway Scottsdale: the teachers, the support staff, and the student body.” That love soon became a desire “to do even more to help our school in a tangible way.” In 2023, a substitute role opened the door to something more. What began as an opportunity to serve directly in classrooms quickly became an offer to join the Great Hearts Teacher Apprentice Program—a full-time step she hadn’t expected. With the chance to apprentice under a Lead Teacher she deeply admired, she said yes. A turning point soon followed: when her Lead, Mrs. Hannah Sablan, went on maternity leave, Allie stepped into the Lead Teacher role mid-year. “Another quick, unexpected shift!” she recalls—one that launched her into her current second-grade Lead role. Her journey reflects the heart of the program: real classrooms, authentic mentorship, and support at every step. “It takes a village to mold a teacher,” she says, naming mentors including Mr. Henry Sterling, Mrs. Christine Fleming, Mrs. Kristin Hunt, instructional coach Mr. Caleb Calloway, and veteran teacher Mrs. Elizabeth Gonzalez. Having studied business in college, Mrs. Constable never imagined becoming a teacher. But the Apprentice Teacher program made it possible: “Teaching is a skill learned by watching, modeling, and trial-and-error… I am a firm believer that the Apprentice Teacher program allows you the space and resources to hone your teaching craft.” Ready to begin your own journey? Explore the Great Hearts Teacher Apprentice Program and discover what’s possible when you’re guided and supported every step of the way. www.GreatHeartsCareers.org

At Great Hearts, we believe teaching is a craft—one shaped through mentorship, reflection, and a genuine love of learning. Just ask Luis C Robles, now a Lead Teacher at #MARYVALEMARYVALE PREPARATORY ACADEMY, whose journey began as a Great Hearts Apprentice Teacher. Mr. Robles felt drawn to the classroom because he’s always been "constantly curious" and finds joy in helping others discover something new. His goal has been to spark that same excitement for learning in his students. Through the Apprentice Teacher program, Mr. Robles experienced the guidance and coaching he needed in order to grow as a teacher. “Being able to watch an experienced teacher lead the class taught me so much,” he shared. Observing master teachers helped him understand lesson structure, classroom management, and how to keep students truly engaged—forming a foundation he still uses today. Mentorship shaped every step of his growth. He credits a fellow lead teacher, Ms. Cumberworth, for her example in commanding a classroom with grace and presence, as well as the diverse styles he saw from other teachers that helped him shape his own voice. And with thoughtful, consistent feedback from Assistant Headmaster Ms. Kennedy, Mr. Robles flourished. If you’re ready to learn deeply, grow quickly, and serve with purpose, the Great Hearts Apprentice Teacher program may be your path. Begin your journey at www.GreatHeartsCareers.org.
