As we kick off the final month of 2025, we're sharing several highlights from conferences, events, and customer milestones in November! Members of the IFF team had a great time connecting with partners, colleagues, and community changemakers at: • An IFF-hosted Propel event in Kansas City that brought together #nonprofit leaders for refreshments and networking at SW19 at the Stadium, a new pickleball development spearheaded by Community Builders of Kansas City; • Greater Southwest Development Corporation's 2025 Southwest Economic Development Summit at City Colleges of Chicago's Richard J. Daley College; • The groundbreaking ceremony for Lawrence Hall's Lakewood LGBTQ+ Community Home in Chicago; and • The ribbon cutting ceremony and community celebration for BandWith Chicago's new facility on the city's West Side, where young people will have the opportunity to participate in free performing arts programs. On to December!

Through the Thriving Nonprofits initiative, which is funded by McKinney Family Foundation and being led by IFF and the Indianapolis Office of Sustainability, 10 mission-driven organizations in the Indianapolis area are completing building upgrades to increase energy efficiency in their facilities to reduce their utility bills. As part of the initiative, Thriving Nonprofits cohort members also have access to educational seminars designed to build knowledge about energy efficiency and facilities management. A recent session focused on tracking energy and water usage in buildings, helping cohort members further refine their short- and long-term facility goals. #ICYMI, work began in October to restore the historic Sears Sunken Garden in #Chicago’s Homan Square community. Opened in 1907 by Sears, Roebuck, and Co., the garden served as a space for rest and connection when the retail giant was headquartered in the neighborhood. Through a participatory design process led by community members and #nonprofit Friends of Sears Sunken Garden, the garden is being revitalized to continue to serve Homan Square residents and visitors for years to come. Congratulations to friend of IFF, Tonika Johnson, for being named a 2025 MacArthur Fellow for her work documenting disparities in Chicago's neighborhoods through participatory art projects! Johnson's Folded Map Project juxtaposes photographs of Chicago homes with corresponding addresses on opposite sides of the city to illustrate how decades of harmful policies have divided Chicago socially and physically. The Folded Map Project also facilitates conversations between “map twins” – the homes’ residents – to establish new bonds across the city.
