Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) was founded in 1938 during the Great Depression to assist Jewish immigrants and refugees struggling to enter the American workforce and support their families. Today, JVS is among the oldest and largest providers of adult education and workforce development services in Greater Boston, serving a diverse clientele representing over 90 nations, and speaking 50 languages, and helping people secure financial independence through educational and employment services. With over 80 years of demonstrated excellence in workforce development, JVS has a reputation for continuous innovation, building person-centered and performance-based models to improve outcomes and increase programmatic effectiveness. Last year, JVS empower 16,000 individuals, including immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and older workers, to build their skills, advance their education, and build meaningful careers. JVS partners with over 1,300 area employers to help fill vacancies and provide the education their employees need to ascend their career ladders.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of being recognized and celebrated by The Possible Zone for the partnership we built together. I was honored with an award for a collaboration that never felt like “work” — it felt like family. Knowing that the impact of that partnership is still felt, even though I’m no longer in the same role I was when we built it, means more than words can express. Building true partnerships in a world where resources exist but many remain unaware of them — and where organizations often compete to be at the top — is challenging. But it’s also more important now than ever. When we choose collaboration over competition, our communities win. I’m grateful beyond measure for what The Possible Zone and JVS Boston continue to offer. Thank you for the recognition, the trust, and the reminder that meaningful relationships carry forward.

Jeff from Disability Services and Amanda from Refugee Services were honored to celebrate Old Colony YMCA’s Rise Up Gala last week. Old Colony YMCA, represented here by Serah Selmon, Vice President, and Ben Kravitz from the Board of Directors, has fully invested in JVS’s efforts to provide career pathways for people with disabilities, immigrants, and refugees in the Greater Brockton area. Whether it is a Transitions to Work session at the Stoughton, English Classes and Career Coaching at the Brockton Branch, or partnering with JVS and House of Possibilities to build a branch in downtown Brockton, OCY constantly has our back and we are incredibly grateful for them!

Through JVS's partnership with Life Science Cares Boston, a group of 20 Kura Oncology employees assembled Holiday Food bags filled with canned goods and other non-perishable food items for JVS clients. The bags will be distributed to clients across the agency so that their families can celebrate the season while saving money for other essentials. Thank you to Life Science Cares and Kura Oncology for supporting our clients in this way during the holiday season.
