  • In observance of Veterans Day, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated proudly recognizes and honors the distinguished service and sacrifice of all U.S. military veterans. Since 1917, during the First World War, members of Kappa Alpha Psi have answered the call to serve our nation with valor and distinction. From the earliest days of our fraternity, Kappa men have stood in the gap…. demonstrating unwavering loyalty, patriotism, and a steadfast commitment to equality and justice. Notably, seven of our ten Founders served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War I: • Founder Elder W. Diggs was among the first Kappa men to serve and earned a commission as a lieutenant. • Founder Edward G. Irvin was cited for bravery as a combat medic with the American Expeditionary Forces in France, receiving the nation’s second-highest medal for valor. He later served on the Selective Service Board during World War II and the Korean War. • Founder John M. Lee enlisted in the 349th Field Artillery, serving overseas as a sergeant first class and gunner. He was part of the first all-Black battery to engage the enemy and fired its inaugural shot. • Founder Henry T. Asher served honorably for more than a year overseas in France. • Founder Ezra D. Alexander served in the Army Medical Corps during World War I and later as a medical examiner during World War II. • Founder Marcus P. Blakemore served as a private with Company 30, 154th Depot Brigade during World War I. Additionally, Second Grand Polemarch Irven Armstrong attained the rank of sergeant in the 351st Field Artillery in France. From World War I to the present day, countless Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi have courageously served in every branch of the United States Armed Forces. Their dedication has safeguarded the freedoms we hold dear and exemplified the fraternity’s enduring commitment to achievement in every field of human endeavor. Today, and every day, we salute our veterans for their service, sacrifice, and steadfast devotion to our nation.
