In this December episode of Health for Life, we’re joined by Dr. Ranjani Panithi, a highly experienced pediatrician at Kern Medical, to talk about Respiratory Syncytial Virus — better known as RSV. As cases tend to spike in the winter months, Dr. Panithi helps us understand what RSV is, how it spreads, and which children are most at risk for severe illness. We discuss the latest prevention tools, including new immunizations and maternal vaccines, how to care for children with RSV at home, and when it’s time to seek medical attention. Whether you're a new parent, caregiver, or just want to stay informed this cold and flu season, this episode offers expert insight to help keep your little ones safe and healthy. About us
Since our beginning in 1867, Kern Medical has served as an integral part of the community. Our 222-licensed bed acute care teaching hospital and outpatient clinics offer many services unavailable to the rest of the community. These services include: - The only Level II Trauma program between Fresno and Los Angeles - Academic teaching programs that have trained many of the physicians now practicing in our community. Each year, over 200 residents, fellows, and medical students enroll in Kern Medical's training programs. - Hospital-based high-risk pregnancy services - Inpatient psychiatric services integrated with the County's mental health programs - Integrated outpatient clinics with locations at our Columbus Clinic (1111 Columbus Avenue), Medical Center Campus (1700 Mt. Vernon Avenue), and on Truxtun Avenue (6401 Truxtun Avenue, Suite A-1) As an academic teaching hospital, we are affiliated with UCLA and its David Geffen School of Medicine, with many of our physicians also holding faculty positions at UCLA. Our physician training ranges from three to five years with residencies in internal medicine, surgery, family practice, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry. We offer an extensive array of services to all – regardless of their circumstances. We continue to add new medical technologies, recruit outstanding physicians in new specialties, and further expand our affiliation with UCLA. We are proud of our founding mission focused on caring for you and your loved ones with the highest quality and most compassionate service.

In this episode of Health for Life, we’re joined by Dr. Tung Trang, Chief of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Oncology at Kern Medical. As the only head and neck cancer surgeon in Kern County and the physician behind the county’s first implantable hearing aid, Dr. Trang brings unmatched expertise to the table. We explore the growing concern of hearing loss in the age of earbuds and constant audio exposure — especially among younger populations. Dr. Trang breaks down how modern listening habits are impacting our ears, how to recognize early signs of damage, and what you can do to protect your hearing for the long haul. Plus, we dive into the do’s and don’ts of ear cleaning (spoiler: step away from the cotton swabs) and hear about some of the most unusual objects Dr. Trang has found lodged in patients’ ears — you won’t want to miss it! Whether you're a daily earbud user or just curious about your ear health, this episode is full of practical tips, surprising stories, and expert insight from one of the nation’s top ENT surgeons.
