WORLD’S FIRST FERROELECTRIC NITRIDE FILM BY ALD Recent research lead by the Kurt J. Lesker Company in partnership with Penn State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory demonstrates the successful deposition of worlds first ferroelectric nitride by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) under ultrahigh purity conditions (UHP-C). This work addresses the critical need for atomic-level precision in semiconductor manufacturing, especially at the 2nm node where line widths approach 40 atoms. The study shows how controlling background contamination levels enables ferroelectric performance by ALD Techniques. On August 7th we hosted a one-day workshop featuring hands-on nanotechnology lab activities in our teaching room. This experience was designed to advance vacuum science education and workforce development. We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Zachary Gray and Treylor Shirley, two passionate advocates for advancing nanotechnology education and workforce development from Penn State University to KJLC for a demonstration session. Their visit included a TRAIN001 demonstration session, showcasing practical training tools for high schools and community colleges across Pennsylvania. Dr. Zachary Gray, Assistant Research Professor at Penn State, is leading a proposal to the NSF ATE program to fund a statewide initiative focused on vacuum science and nanotechnology. Treylor Shirley, a Ph.D. candidate in Advanced Materials and Nanoscale Systems, his journey from the Nanotechnology Capstone Semester to doctoral research exemplifies the transformative power of practical training. A big thank you to Dr. Gray and Trey Shirley for sharing their insights and expertise. We learned a lot from their contributions and look forward to future collaborations. Together, we are enabling technology for a better world. #Nanotechnology #VacuumScience #STEMEducation #LeskerU #PennState #HandsOnLearning #EnablingTechnologyForABetterWorld
