  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a global call to celebrate progress and commit to action for a more equitable world. At Level Access that commitment is at the heart of everything we do—whether it’s building technology that helps remove digital barriers for people with disabilities or empowering organizations to create inclusive digital experiences from the start. No one understands that mission better than the advocates and experts who live it every day. James Dietz, Accessibility Consultant and Chair of our Persons with Disabilities Employee Resource Group (ERG), shares: “As people with disabilities who work in accessibility and span the nations, for us, International Day of Persons with Disabilities is every day. Join us: take action where you live and work.” Not sure where to start? Review your org’s accessibility statement. Understand what progress has been made and what commitments you and your colleagues can make to improve accessibility. Every action matters. #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #IDPWD #Accessibility #Inclusion #DigitalAccessibility #LevelAccess

The background is a gradient of light blue and lavender with a subtle grid pattern.
  • “Every field can benefit from bringing in people with disabilities, as we bring views others can't imagine.” Today, December 3, we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (#IDPWD)—a global affirmation that accessibility and inclusion are essential. More than one billion people worldwide live with disabilities, and today highlights the importance of creating spaces where everyone can benefit from their contributions—where every voice matters. We’re proud to feature some of our own Level Access voices as they reflect on why this day is so impactful. Check out our video featuring: Nat Tarnoff, Principal Accessibility Consultant, Nell K, Training and Enablement Partner, Ali Zimmerman, Accessibility Consultant, and Barry Armour, Senior Accessibility Consultant. • Today marks the 18th annual #BlueBeanieDay! 💙    Every year, we mark Blue Beanie Day as a way to raise awareness about global web accessibility standards.  The blue beanie was inspired by Jeffrey Zeldman, author of “Designing with Web Standards,” whose hallmark beanie has become a symbol of the mission to build a more inclusive web—the mission we at Level Access live and breathe every day. Today, we’re celebrating how far this movement has come since Blue Beanie Day was first popularized in 2007. It’s amazing to witness the global momentum behind digital accessibility and share our passion with dedicated advocates all over the world.   → Why is #DigitalAccessibility important to you? EN: It’s been 2 weeks, and I am still honored to receive a Bronze Stevie Award in the category of “Social Changemaker of the Year – Disability”! In the same year as Karen Tamley from Access Living winning Gold! Wow! Thank you to The Stevie® Awards team for this distinction! I am sharing an edited version of the acceptance speech I prepared, starting with an example of an accessible introduction because I want an accessible world yesterday. I use she pronouns, and I'm a white nonbinary physically disabled and neurodivergent woman. Thank you everyone, since I wouldn't have this honor without you.  First and foremost, I want to thank my parents, who joined me for the evening – dziękuję Mama i Tata – for everything. Thank you also to my beautiful family around the world, blood and chosen, and the Polonia in East Tennessee. The disability community, especially in Chicago, without which I couldn’t do this work.  My friends and colleagues in my work communities, from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), the American Anthropological Association (AAA), and Level Access, which nominated me for this award.  Everyone who has been a mentor to me.  And everyone who watched the awards ceremony as we patiently waited for my category. I also want to share my marvel of the women receiving Stevies. Your stories and impact are energizing. Congratulations to all of us, and may we continue changing the world for better together! With that, your Accessibility Narwhal signs off. Thank you! - PL: Minęły 2 tygodnie, a ja wciąż czuję się zaszczycona otrzymaniem Brązowej Nagrody Stevie w kategorii „Social Change Maker of the Year - Disability” (tł. Twórca Zmian Społecznych Roku – Niepełnosprawność)! W tym samym roku, w którym Karen Tamley z Access Living wygrała Złoto! Wow! Dziękuję zespołowi z The Stevie® Awards za to wyróżnienie!

Mom + LxD + AI Agent Builder + Health Communication Researcher

In my first 90 days at Level Access, I had not one but two previously scheduled trips on the calendar — including this one, where I had the privilege of presenting my academic research on a new model for care providers supporting persons with birth trauma and accepting an award for said work at the National Communication Association’s Annual Conference. Some employers might see scholarship, writing, and conference work as a distraction or “second career.” Level Access sees it as an asset — as part of the fabric of who I am and how I show up to enable, teach, and train our teams. All this to say, a huge thank you to Jason Bartley, Colleen Wood, SPHR, and the team for supporting me fully as both a practitioner and a researcher. It means the world to me to work in a place where curiosity, learning, and interdisciplinary expertise aren’t just tolerated…they’re encouraged. #healthcommunication #traumaresearch #learninganddevelopment #phd
