Why do VCs avoid investing outside the scope of their fund? In this clip, Dr. Luc Marengere, Managing Partner of TVM Capital Life Science, explains why venture funds stay closely aligned with their investment mandates. When VC firms raise capital, they create a private placement memorandum that outlines exactly how the fund will be invested. Those commitments guide every decision the firm makes, which is why they do not typically pursue opportunities outside the categories, stages, or geographies defined during fundraising. Luc encourages entrepreneurs to review an investor’s website and portfolio to understand whether their company fits within that fund’s mandate. This helps founders target the right conversations and focus their time on investors who can actually participate. In October, Adaptyx Biosciences raised $14 million in Seed funding, bringing its total funding to $23 million since its inception in 2022. Interlagos led the round with significant participation from Overwater Ventures. Starbloom Capital, Stanford University, the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, Hyperlink Ventures, Cantos Ventures, Humba Ventures, and Seaside Ventures also participated. Adaptyx develops a biowearable platform aiming to redefine continuous health monitoring. The company designed its patch device to move beyond glucose and capture a much wider range of human biochemistry. That includes small molecules, electrolytes, hormones, drugs, and proteins. The financing will be used to accelerate R&D and product development for the patch device, expand its molecular switch pipeline, and support ongoing clinical trials while scaling its team across engineering, data science, and clinical operations. Congratulations to LSI Alumni, Vijit Sabnis, CEO & Co-Founder of Adaptyx, and the entire Adaptyx Biosciences team on this major milestone.

“If we want to scale these technologies and bring them to as many patients as possible, it’s very hard to do a story that doesn’t involve US commercialization.” — Fernando Pacheco, Partner, Endeavour Vision In this clip, Fernando breaks down the ongoing discussion about how companies approach the US and EU markets. His takeaway is straightforward. Half of the global medtech market is in the United States. That reality shapes the strategy for nearly every company, whether they are based in Europe or the US. To compete at scale, attract attention from strategics, and ultimately reach a meaningful exit, most companies need a clear plan for entering and growing in the US market. “You’ve probably heard this saying: an A-team with a B-idea beats a B-team with an A-idea. To some extent, we believe that.” — Tyler Wanke, Investor, Wanke Family Office and CEO, MadSci In this panel, Tyler Wanke shares why strong teams are at the core of what they look for in an investment. Whether it’s evaluating co-investors or the management team of a startup, he points out that investing is as much about character as it is about opportunity. Integrity, honesty, and persistence are what carry a team through the inevitable ups and downs. “It just takes one yes. It takes one yes to get your lead investor. It takes one yes to tap into a whole new network of investors and connections.” — Hillary Pierce, CEO, Total Flow Medical In this clip, Hillary reflects on how she and Total Flow Medical have navigated difficult moments. She comes back to a simple mindset. A single yes can change the trajectory of a company, and that belief has kept the team focused through each phase of growth and fundraising. She also highlights the structure behind their resilience. Total Flow Medical brings in investors who can contribute far beyond capital. Surgeons and clinicians are involved as investors. Distributors and health systems are involved as investors. Seasoned medtech executives are involved as investors.
