⁉️Did you know Did you know that there are different types of sheen that you see in water? Biological sheen is naturally occurring and is safe for the environment. Bio sheen can look very similar to oil sheen, but there are ways to decipher between the two. Please watch our video to hear from our experts on how to tell the difference. As always, please reach out if you have any concerns or are unsure the type of sheen you are seeing. LDEQ Single Point of Contact Section: (225) 219-3640.

LDEQ has been leading the response and remediation efforts in the aftermath of the Smitty’s Supply fire in Tangipahoa Parish, and our team remains fully engaged in protecting the surrounding community. One of our key tools on the ground has been our Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory (MAML), which provides continuous, real-time air quality data to support safe and informed decision-making. We continue to work closely with state, local, and federal partners as cleanup progresses, and we remain committed to transparency every step of the way. #LDEQ #MAML #AirQuality #EmergencyResponse

LDEQ was proud to participate in Super Science Saturday at Louisiana State University this past weekend! Our team enjoyed engaging with students, families, and science enthusiasts at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, where visitors explored interactive environmental science activities and toured LDEQ’s Mobile Air Monitoring Lab (MAML). Events like Super Science Saturday provide valuable opportunities to inspire the next generation of scientists and highlight the importance of protecting Louisiana’s air, land, and water. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more about how science supports a cleaner, healthier Louisiana! #LDEQ #SuperScienceSaturday #STEM #EnvironmentalScience

🌊 Ocean Commotion 2025! 🌊 LDEQ geologists and environmental scientists had a great time connecting with students and educators at LSU Sea Grant’s annual Ocean Commotion event last week! Held at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, the forum provides K–8 students with hands-on learning about Louisiana’s unique coastal and aquatic environments. Our team showcased two interactive demonstrations — the Walnut Bayou model and the aquifer model — to show how water moves through our environment and how we can all play a role in protecting Louisiana’s natural resources. Thanks to all who participated! #LDEQ #OceanCommotion #EnvironmentalEducation #STEM
