🌟 Mentorship as a Life Journey 🌟 We were honored to welcome Dr. Natoschia Scruggs, Chief Access, Diversity, and Fairness Officer at the Trial Court, as our guest speaker for the TRC Mentorship Program’s Monthly Mentor Meeting. In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Dr. Scruggs shared how mentorship has shaped her life through the lens of the Four Directions—East, South, West, and North—each representing a stage of life and growth. Her reflections were powerful, personal, and deeply inspiring. She reminded us that: ✅ Mentorship is reciprocal ✅ Vulnerability is strength ✅ Listening matters more than advice ✅ Growth comes from discomfort She also left us with four practical tips for mentors: Give honest feedback Be a listening ear (with boundaries) Encourage agency Don’t be too hard on yourself Thank you, Dr. Scruggs, for your wisdom and authenticity. Your words will stay with us as we continue to grow as mentors and mentees. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #MentorshipMatters #Leadership #DiversityAndInclusion #ProfessionalGrowth #TRCMentorship #MATrialCourt

The Trial Court Mentorship Program welcomed Honorable First Justice Joseph Johnston of the Suffolk County Juvenile Court as the first guest speaker at the Pilot Program’s Monthly Mentor Meeting. Judge Johnston shared thoughtful reflections on career development and mentorship within the Massachusetts Trial Court and offered practical advice to our mentors. He also took time to learn about mentor-mentee relationships forming in our pilot program. A few key takeaways from his talk: • Let mentees discover their own answers—don’t always provide them. • Take care of yourself and model that for others. • Celebrate your mentee’s strengths more than you critique. • Lead with action, not just words. His message was clear: Mentorship is about growth, not perfection. It’s built on trust, vulnerability, and shared learning. Thank you, Judge Johnston, for your time and inspiration!
