Frustrated with having to cook "in the dirt" while backpacking, Kimberlite founders Casey McKellar and Robin Petersen created the Tree Table, an ultra-lightweight, modular surface that redefines modern outdoor gear. Through early-stage investment secured via the MEDC-supported Start Garden 100 competition, this Grand Rapids-based company was able to manufacture, assemble and ship its products locally. On the remote Keweenaw Peninsula, Chef Widad “Wi” Mueller of the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge brings a global perspective to this historic UP landmark.
