Licensure rules are always evolving, and staying on top of the details matters for both clinicians and organizations. We’ll keep sharing updates like these so our community has clear, timely information to navigate changes. Rachel Ledbetter, LMFT highlights two recent updates in Colorado and Georgia below.
One reality of the mental health profession is that state licensure rules can change - often with very little notice. My fellow therapists know the reality: we must interpret the rules to the best of our ability, hoping we've got it right. At Motivo, we keep our ear to the ground on any licensure regulation changes and we are in constant contact with the state board. Therapists, here are two recent changes you might want to look into... 1. Colorado – Medicaid Supervision Change: As of July 1, supervisors must also be enrolled as Medicaid providers to supervise for organizations that bill Medicaid. 2. Georgia – LPC Supervision Requirements Change: The Board has approved changes that will impact supervision requirements. While not yet in effect, these updates represent a significant shift: Total supervision hours will increase from 70 to 100, and the minimum licensure timeline will decrease from 3 years to 2. Associates must now average at least 3 supervision hours per month. Clinical Directors or an associate’s direct work superior can no longer provide licensure supervision. We’ll be connecting with our Motivo Health community very soon to share these details and guidance on making the necessary shifts. If we can provide further clarification for you, don't hesitate to shoot me a DM. I'm happy to help!

It’s Testimonial Tuesday — and today, we’re spotlighting the incredible impact a supervisor can have on the licensure journey. 💬 This week’s shoutout goes to Ms. Morris, whose calm, caring, and solution-oriented approach left a lasting impression on associate therapist Jared Hagler at Acadia Healthcare. Stories like this remind us why we do what we do — and why great supervision matters.

👋 Starting something new we’re really excited about: Testimonial Tuesdays! Every Tuesday, we’ll be sharing stories from the associate therapists and organizations we serve — because their words say it best. From licensure support to workforce retention, we get to be part of some pretty meaningful journeys. And we think those stories are worth sharing. Here’s our first one 👇 Thank you Gianna Martelli, LCSW at Oak Street Health, part of CVS Health for being such a great partner!

As the week winds down, we're thinking back to a powerful conversation from the 2025 Behavioral Health Workforce Summit—led by Dr. Anna Ratzliff and focused on the future of clinical education. What will it really take to support the next generation of clinicians? 💡 Develop self-awareness alongside clinical skills 💡 Align training with today’s practice environments 💡 Prioritize supervision to prevent burnout 💡 Embrace innovation in education 💡 Address policy gaps—like unpaid hours and undervalued reimbursement Supporting future clinicians takes more than coursework. It requires collaboration across education, employers, and policymakers. Here’s to ending the week inspired—and working toward a stronger behavioral health workforce. 📸 Taylor Mickal

Innovation in behavioral health isn’t just about tech—it’s about rethinking care. At our 2025 Behavioral Health Workforce Summit, founders and CEOs from leading mental health companies shared what innovation truly means: 🧠 Redesigning care models—not just digitizing them 📈 Scaling evidence-based treatment while keeping quality high ⚙️ Tackling licensing, reimbursement, and admin roadblocks 💬 Using AI to enhance but not to replace the human connection The message was clear: meaningful innovation solves real problems, centers human care, and dares to question the status quo. Thank you, Sofia N., Kristian Ranta, Yael Berman and Jeff Beck, LCSW 📸 Taylor Mickal

What’s really getting in the way of a stronger behavioral health workforce? At our 2025 Behavioral Health Workforce Summit, our COO Allie Long led a panel discussing some of the key roadblocks. 🔹 People are leaving the field faster than new clinicians are joining 🔹 Ghost networks make it harder for patients to find care 🔹 Innovation is out there—but too slow to meet the moment 🔹 Policy still lags behind what communities actually need The takeaway? Real change won’t come from waiting. It’ll take bold ideas, honest conversations, and leadership that’s willing to act. Thank you Jonas Thom, Trip Hofer, Merrill Friedman & Evan Strother! Let’s build what’s next—together. 📸 Taylor Mickal
