  • In 2021, TriMet recognized the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to providing exemplary public safety services by selecting us as the lead agency overseeing Transit Police. Since then, our top priority has been building a strong partnership with TriMet leadership and re-engaging law enforcement partners to strengthen staffing across the transit system. At a press conference held earlier today, TriMet leaders and Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell announced we’ll welcome Portland Police Bureau back to Transit Police. By adding one PPB sergeant and five PPB officers, we’ll expand our presence on the TriMet system, deterring crime and reassuring those who depend on public transportation. We’ll also increase resources to conduct high-visibility missions focused on areas of public concern or higher rates of criminal activity. MCSO, Hillsboro Police Department, Beaverton Police, Port of Portland Police, and Portland Police Bureau will work as one unit, taking active steps to prevent crime and hold people accountable when crimes occur on Portland’s transit system. MCSO will continue to provide command leadership and set Transit Police priorities. TriMet will provide strong operational collaboration and clear direction. Our partner agencies will bring their resources and expertise to provide what Portlanders deserve — a safe, reliable, and welcoming transit system.

National Night Out at Director Park was a tremendous success! Thank you to Portland Fire & Rescue, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, and all of our wonderful first responders who showed up to meet community members and talk about the critical work that they do. Our Executive Director, Mark Wells, spoke with KPTV about the importance of rebuilding trust with law enforcement. He shared, "We’re in a moment of rebuilding that relationship and that trust with law enforcement throughout the nation and here in Portland as well, and it all starts with getting to know one police officer, one sheriff’s deputy, and getting to build that dialogue again." • SANDY RIVER RESCUE DRONE FOOTAGE On Friday, August 22, our deputies received a call from someone concerned about a family of four that had been out tubing on the Sandy River. They informed us the family was still a mile from their takeout point at Dabney State Rec Area and nightfall was fast approaching. The person who contacted MCSO said the family did not have phones on them, but let deputies know they were last seen near Camp Angelos. Two deputies responded, searching downriver from Camp Angelos for the tubers to no avail. After confirming there was still one car parked at the family’s intended takeout point, they returned to Camp Angelos, checking upriver this time around, where they heard people calling out for help. Due to a steep cliffside, the deputies did not have direct access to the tubers, but they didn’t give up. One deputy put on a dry suit and hiked a side trail until he was able to enter the river and contact the family. The second deputy collaborated with Corbett Fire to identify a nearby exit path. Meanwhile, the MCSO Drone Team deployed a drone and shone a light guiding the first deputy and the family toward the exit path. Ultimately, the team got the family to safety and drove them back to their car more than 8 hours after they’d put into the river on their innertubes at Oxbow Park. We’re so glad we were able to help and hope this serves as a reminder that you should always carry a phone and other necessary supplies (sunscreen, water, snacks, etc.) in a dry bag in case of an emergency like this one. Excellent work, Deputy Barrett, Deputy Livermore, Sgt. Stevens, and Corbett Fire! #TeamMCSO #MCSODroneTeam #MCSORiverPatrol

  • “Get in the car. We’re going shopping!” Our deputies had such a blast at this year’s #ShopWithACop event! Pushing shopping carts while letting these truly special kids channel their inner Ariana Grande (I see it, I like it. I want it, I got it 🎶😎🛍️) is such a joy. Thank you to #TeamMCSO for showing up, and to all the partners who make this annual event such a hit! Special thanks to Gresham Police Department, Gresham Benevolent Fund, Camp Rosenbaum Fund, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Association, Walmart (Wood Village), and East County The Salvation Army!
