Updates

  • Preparation can make all the difference when stepping into a new opportunity. At the Center for Women, clients practice interview strategies, review common questions, and learn how to showcase their unique strengths. This kind of preparation transforms nerves into confidence and uncertainty into clarity. Each rehearsal builds momentum, helping women walk into interviews ready to own their stories. For many, the process is as empowering as the outcome: it reminds them they are capable, resilient, and ready for what’s ahead. With preparation and support, every woman has the tools to succeed. #JobReadiness #WomenInWorkforce #CareerConfidence

  • Still smiling from the warmth, love and gratitude we felt this week at our Holiday Pop-Up Shop for our Center for Women clients. The office was filled with the holiday spirit as the women “shopped” for handbags, toiletries and make-up, cozy socks and hand-knit hats and scarves and other treats, all for free and just for them. Thank you to all our volunteers who made the experience extra-special and to everyone who donated items including our friends at Wool and Grace, Kearny Bank, I Support the Girls -Central and North NJ, and others. Happy Holidays!

  • Employers often say that technical skills get you in the door, but soft skills help you succeed long-term. That’s why the Center for Women emphasizes communication, teamwork, and adaptability in its programs. Clients practice real-world scenarios to strengthen these skills, building confidence along the way. Soft skills are the foundation of thriving in dynamic workplaces and navigating change with grace. By investing in both hard and soft skills, women leave become ready for a career, not just a job. When skills and confidence meet, success follows. #SoftSkills #CareerGrowth #JobReadiness

  • Mentorship is more than advice; it’s guidance, encouragement, and advocacy. At the Center for Women, mentors walk alongside clients, offering real-world insights and practical strategies for career growth. These relationships build confidence and foster resilience in ways that training alone cannot. For mentors, the experience is equally rewarding, as they witness firsthand the courage and determination of women re-entering the workforce. Together, mentor and mentee create a path forward filled with possibility. #Mentorship #CareerServices #WomenSupportingWomen

  • Job Markets Don't Take a Holiday While many people are getting ready to start long awaited vacations and celebrations that come along in December, many of us are still looking for work. Job hunting does not always take a holiday, so how do you navigate fewer people in the office and the feeling that job postings seem lighter than usual?    Easy! Unwrap your potential and gear up for a new year of growth and opportunity. Seasonal work is almost always available in a variety of sectors such as retail, hospitality or customer service. Even if it’s not your forever job, you’re out there gaining more experience and showing future employers just how dedicated you are to keeping your skills and abilities fresh.    It might also be a good time to give yourself a short holiday from all the job hunting and reflect on your job strategies and priorities. Looking for work can feel like a full-time job, so give yourself some grace, enjoy the holiday cheer and look forward to conquering the new year!

  • Re-entering the workforce comes with challenges, from childcare to confidence gaps. At the Center for Women, we believe these barriers are not roadblocks, but stepping stones when addressed with the right support. Our holistic approach ensures that women are not just job-ready, but life-ready. Every solution, from resource referrals to mentorship, helps break down walls that stand in the way of progress. Women are capable of more than they sometimes realize. With support and resilience, every barrier can become a breakthrough. #BreakingBarriers #WorkforceReentry #WomenEmpowerment

  • Happy Thanksgiving! We started the celebration last week with a fabulous group of volunteers who came together to pack bags filled recipes for delicious Thanksgiving sides and desserts – plus all the fixings and ingredients to make them. And, to brighten the holiday table, we created festive citrus centerpieces, made with fresh fruit! About 50 Center for Women clients collected their “Cooking with Love” bounty to take home to their families and stock their kitchens! Thank you to everyone who donated and participated in this Mitzvah-in-a-Minute, which was the first of NCJW/Essex’s holiday season MIMs. Our annual Toy Drive and Gift Wrap and Center for Women Pop Up Shop are coming up soon. Visit www.ncjwessex.org for more info on how you can get involved.

  • Job readiness is not just about landing a position, it’s about sustaining a career. That’s why the Center for Women emphasizes lifelong learning, from continued training to leadership development. Women who invest in their growth are better positioned to adapt, lead, and inspire others. For our clients, each new skill represents both progress and possibility. When learning never stops, opportunities never run out. Knowledge is power, and it belongs to every woman. #LifelongLearning #WomenLeaders #CareerDevelopment

  • Employers play a vital role in supporting women re-entering the workforce. The Center for Women works closely with businesses committed to equitable hiring and inclusive workplaces. By connecting clients with these partners, we’re helping create environments where women can thrive and grow long-term. This collaboration benefits everyone: employers gain skilled, motivated talent, and clients find workplaces that value their contributions. Together, we can redefine what opportunity looks like. The future of work is stronger when women are included. #EquityInWorkplace #EmployerPartnerships #InclusiveHiring
