The Camden Vicinage marked the opening of the new court term with a special ceremony last week. Assignment Judge Deborah Silverman Katz presided over the event, which included a tribute to recently deceased members of the Camden County Bar Association. Bar Association President Robert Greenberg served as host.

Staff from the New Jersey Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection participated in Senior Law Day, a conference held last month by the New Jesey State Bar Foundation to educate the public about the key legal issues facing older adults. The Lawyers’ Fund, a committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court, reimburses clients whose money was stolen by their New Jersey attorney if that attorney has been suspended, disbarred, is in disability inactive status, or is deceased. The recovery court team in Atlantic County marked Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 19 by hosting an art contest for program participants, awarding gift baskets to four winners. Attendees also played a Jeopardy-style game with categories including recovery, movies and “What Would Judge Wilson Do.” Judge Jeffrey Wilson addressed the group, and Treatment Assessment Services for the Courts (TASC) program evaluator Jennifer Owens noted a decrease in overdose deaths. Narcan kits were distributed.

The Bergen Vicinage revamped its internship program this summer and welcomed more than 75 paid and unpaid interns. The updated program featured mentorships, attending court proceedings, and eight lunch and learn sessions with judges and Judiciary. Human resources staff helped the interns align their experience with professional goals, culminating in a networking luncheon.

Law clerks in the Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage attended an enrichment orientation Monday for the 2025-2026 term. The session introduced attendees to the vicinage, included meetings with Assignment Judge Susan Sheppard and human resources staff, and provided information on court rules and expectations for employment.
